Could someone please do Helicoil 101 for dummies for me? Do you need a special tool to insert them? Do you need a special tool to remove them? How much larger a hole do you need for each size? Are they readily available? How well do they work? Tnx. J.B.

Stripped oil feed on the head, want to helicoil. Does a regular size drill fir in the engine bay, or do I really need to buy a smaller or other drill? When drilling for the helicoil, will metal flakes get pushed into the head itself, or just within the threaded area of the head? Do I need to remove the valve cover to clean all the shavings? Could I just turn engine over real...

Guess I've been working out at my gym too much lately, but I successfully stripped the threads on my Moroso oil pan drain plug during an oil change. I'm going to apply a helicoil repair on it, but wasn't sure what size kit to get. If anyone else has made the same mistake as I , and repaired it with a helicoil kit, could you let me know what size kit you used? Thanks, Rob.

I've seen the regular coil inserts from helicoil, but i've also seen another type which are for heavy duty things like spark plugs holes. Any recomendations? PS this is not for my sc, but for a 5.0 motor im building...but I am using aluminum heads. any help appreciated. Thanks!

when i was installing my lower manifold, in addition to me snapping one of the bolt/suds another one of the bolts in the head kept spinning and not getting any tighter. I'm assuming the bolt needs to be fixed. I did a brief search on helicoil, but I wanted to know if there are any tips. LIke I mentioned in the title this will be one of the bolts holes in the head. I found out that there ...

I joined the ranks that stripped the oil breather screw on top of the oil tank. I'm careful and still did it. I got a 6mm helicoil kit and plan to do it tomarrow and have a few questions. I read somewhere that someone used loctite on the helicoil, true? If there is shavings in the oil tank, will the oil filter get it before it goes to the engine? Or do I have to be careful and clean ...

ur MOT man is a tad strict if s/he has gone to the effort of inspecting the sparkplugs!!! I'm very interested to see how the helicoil goes. I had them put into the alloy wheels of my Chavalier to hold the covers on after a incompetant mechanic didn't see the locking key on the keyring & butchered the locks off. Threads were as good as new once done tho

Well, I stripped the crank threads while trying to install the balancer on my 454. Didn't realize I coudn't use the bolt to press it on. Now I have to get a helicoil to fix it. Looks like most kits come with a tiny .750 insert length. The longest I can find is 1" which seems short as well. Has anyone ever made this repair? What length coil did you install?

Yesterday my new Chorus group arrived . Unfortunately, the threads pulled out of the braze-on front der when I tried to tighten it down . Looks like it was just wire (helicoil maybe) instead of tapped? Anyway, I'm planning to call the shop I bought it from to see about a warranty replacement. So here's my question. Will my previous front der work in the meantime? It's pre-2000. If not, ...

I searched the microfiche on RonAyers and googled, but I'm doing it wrong; I can't find it. What is the thread size of the oil drain plug of the ST1100? It's not that I need to find the proper size Helicoil® or anything...

What do you weld onto when the bolt is broken down inside the cylinder head? Look carefully at the pictures; you'll observe the broken bolt is left rear (passenger) on the 1-4 cylinder head............its sealing the funny shaped red 'O'ring between the water bridge and the head. I removed the water bridge this past winter without removing the oil filler neck/intake but its ...
