Attempted to helicoil the middle bolt on the head to manifold. All went well until the tap snapped inside the head, about 1.5 cm left inside. this tap was brittle as F@@@/., and i am livid. Any ideas on who i can take it to fix in the North east? rang a couple of places and they are saying " head needs to be removed" Got the manifold back on as it snapped pretty level, so can drive.

Could someone please do Helicoil 101 for dummies for me? Do you need a special tool to insert them? Do you need a special tool to remove them? How much larger a hole do you need for each size? Are they readily available? How well do they work? Tnx. J.B.

Stripped oil feed on the head, want to helicoil. Does a regular size drill fir in the engine bay, or do I really need to buy a smaller or other drill? When drilling for the helicoil, will metal flakes get pushed into the head itself, or just within the threaded area of the head? Do I need to remove the valve cover to clean all the shavings? Could I just turn engine over real...

Guess I've been working out at my gym too much lately, but I successfully stripped the threads on my Moroso oil pan drain plug during an oil change. I'm going to apply a helicoil repair on it, but wasn't sure what size kit to get. If anyone else has made the same mistake as I , and repaired it with a helicoil kit, could you let me know what size kit you used? Thanks, Rob.

I've seen the regular coil inserts from helicoil, but i've also seen another type which are for heavy duty things like spark plugs holes. Any recomendations? PS this is not for my sc, but for a 5.0 motor im building...but I am using aluminum heads. any help appreciated. Thanks!

when i was installing my lower manifold, in addition to me snapping one of the bolt/suds another one of the bolts in the head kept spinning and not getting any tighter. I'm assuming the bolt needs to be fixed. I did a brief search on helicoil, but I wanted to know if there are any tips. LIke I mentioned in the title this will be one of the bolts holes in the head. I found out that there ...

The sight mounting screws on my '94 Martin Lynx recurve finally stripped out . I can get a helicoil repair kit and extra coils for ~$50 USD. But, I have been considering moving the sight up for a while. I don't want to epoxy it in place because I won't be able to remove it without a damaging the riser. I've been looking at foam tapes, also called exterior mounting tape, servo tape, ...

I agree. Personally I would have gone with Timeserts if I was going the repair route. I don't think I would trust a Helicoil for that much torque. Barring that, I'd go the used engine route. Is this from a junk yard? They all seem to have 60K on them.

any idea where i can get a helicoil? i looked locally a while back when i first started having this problem but could not find them ....also, if my 10x150 rethreaded size got ripped out (half of them are ripped out, not stripped but completely gone), what size helicoil would i need to get? a 12x125 or 12x150? or would another 10x150 helicoil fit?

I would just go ahead and helicoil it and it will be just fine. Going to a 7/16" bolt will just create tighter clearances with the header tube. Plus the next owner of the truck will look at that and say "wtf is this" Do it right and helicoil it......
