putting a 283 ('67) rebuild together, found i had a bad crankshaft....bought a good used cast iron crank, but it is not drilled for a bolt for the balancer....my old crank was drilled and tapped......i know i can get it drilled at a shop........my question is probably stupid, knowing the undrilled cranks had the balancer pressed on and it was fine.....however for the home rebuilder, how did they ...

Okay, my harmonic balancer came apart at the rubber on my 87 760 turbo, throwing off all my belts.. My P/S pump has been acting up lately and I am thinking that it caused my harmonic balancer to expire prematurely.. Anyhow fcp has the pulley for 58.99 and a rebuilt p/s pump for 95.00. Has anyone had any experience w/ these, are they good or not worth putting on? Any other advice in the ...

I discovered that I can't pull my harmonic balancer with the harmonic balancer puller I have. It's too small. Is there a special one for this engine? Where do I buy it?

Ok so i have a 350 sbc with a pretty stout cam, stock looking heads(1.6 rockers), and a harmonic balancer that looks pretty stock and big. The motor was built by Nelson Racing in Long Beach, CA about 4 years ago it has about 400hp, wish i knew more- we bought the car from someone else... Im going to be putting on a new set of 100% cnc ported aluminum heads and a decent size cam 300/310 and lift ...

The crank pulley/harmonic balancer on my 03 wrx seems to be done for. The OE part is $288 but I have found lightweight crank pulleys from perrin and cobb for less than half the price. I am trying to catch myself up to speed on how the harmonic balancer works exactly (I know their purpose, just not how they physically work) and am curious what problems could come from simply bolting on a ...

Brand new carry a 1yr warranty because they are cheap chinese parts. Rebuilt carry a 3 yr warranty. You decide which is a better investment. http://www.damperdoctor.com/Merchant...egory_Code= CHR Edit: new use noeprene rubber. rebuilt use silicone rubber. Once again. You decide whicch is the better investment. I'm running a rebuilt one on my truck.

I just bought a 91 740 for $200, nothing majorly wrong with the car other than the harmonic balancer is now in two pieces and the (steering?) belt or something has worn a hole through the timing belt cover. Plan is to slap in a new(er) pulley and drive it home, sell it and celebrate with pizza and beer.

Ok, I see that they have some spacers available too, if you need one, so that seems to be covered. Apparently though, it's sized for the early models, so if you're running any kind of serpentine system, you'll likely need one of their spacers. "Some applications will require a pulley spacer for proper belt alignment - see spacer selection chart below for details." Spacer Selection Chart...

I found that the AZ rental puller wouldn't fit my damper either. I managed to jury rig it by installing two of the puller bolts as designed, and then threading in the third bolt outside of the puller. I then clamped the third leg of the puller to the side of the bolt (just under the bolt head) with a pair of vice grips.

removing a harmonic balancer on an otherwise stock motor is one of the most foolish things to do to a car. it compromises reliability for the sake of 0.00004 horsepower to the ground
