I have been told that I need 400watt metal halide lighting for my 240 gallon saltwater aquarium. I am fairly new at saltwater tanks. I would like to keep clams, soft corals etc..I am in need of help for recommendations of what brand is best, as it appears that this will be an expensive addition. I have also been told that 250 watt would work, but if ultimately I will need 400 watt then I...

frequent blowing of halide bulbs i am having frequent problems with my metal halide bulbs blowing. every time i notice the bulb itself is cracked. Could this be caused by malfunctioning ballast? mine are extremely old if i replace them do you know any that are energy efficient?...

I have one 400 Watt Metal Halide lamp fixture with bulb. It is in good shape and works great, I just tested it. It has a universal tap ballast, so it can work with any voltage. It has a "so" type cord on it previously hardwired to j-box, but can be easily changed to plug type. Also I am an electrician so I can give other options for hook up or install for a fee. If interested ...

Hey guys im upgrading my lighting to a 250w metal halide. I got a ballast for 20 bucks on craigslist and i just recived my screw on lamp and mogul base. My question is do i need a glass on the reflector cuz im mounting it onto my canopy.I know that the doble end lamps need it for radiation but dont know if the screw on ones do since the actual lamp is inside the glass bulb. Thanks

I am planning on purchasing 2 hamilton reef star setups with 14000k bulbs at 400w each. Would this be too much lighting for my aquarium? I would like to house a full range of corals without having light limitations

Okay I'm in the process of seeing up a 56 gallon AGA "tall" reef. The tank is 30x18x24. I have access to 2 x 175W mh ballasts. I was thinking about putting both of them in, mounting them with the bulbs going from to back to front (base of the bulb to the rear) putting the bulbs about 10 inches from the sides so they'd be 10 inches apart and 10 inches from the sides. Is this "too much" light ?...

Now that i am doing more and more research i am seeing that most of the lights i have been looking at are pretty high in price. I would love to have a 70w clamp on metal halide fixture but it is just out of my price range at the moment. From there i stumbled upon the Azoo Neo-Light. I was thinking i could add this along with my 9w pc fixture that I am currently using. This is starting to seem ...

Hi All, Done lots of reading before taking the plunge into marine keeping Sunday. Bought Trigon 190 set up Sunday, as described in my profile. Originally had halide over top but changed to T5s (new tubes purchased and reflectors). Xenia and Sailfin Tang seem okay with change of lights. Main problem is with skimmer - so noisy !!! Came with Prizm Pro skimmer and despite cleaning it up, ...

Here is a little ditty I composed, I hope you enjoy........ Ode to reef keeping Ah, what would life be like without the gurgle of the overflow Without the beauty of the Halide glow What would life be like without the soothing hum of the return pump The skimmer skimming down in the sump Or, what would it be like to stare at an empty tank Yes, perhaps more money in the bank But ...
