Just wondered how many other BR's that had tax debts with HMRC had the same problems as us. Hubbie had debts with Personal Tax & NI, VAT, and PAYE. They all went into the BR in July this year, and we know that the OR told them all back in August, but we are still getting letters from all the various departments requesting payment. Sent off copies of the BR order and info of the OR but it's ...
Just a warning, HMRC have updated their software for their e-submissions service from the 19th November. I have tried to use it today via Sage, the new software is blocking any attempt to submit by a number of 3rd party software. There is a possibility that if you submitted your returns last thursday (the last filing day for mnthly returns) that they may not have been recieved by HMRC, you ...

Hi I've tried to find the definition of an offshore asset and am struggling. I don't want to fall foul of HMRC and looking on their website it states "HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is offering a final opportunity for those with an offshore account or asset and tax to pay to come forward and put their affairs in order. Further information can be found on the Overview page."... I have an...

Hi, I'm a student who got his first job during the summer. During this time, I earned over just over £3000 but certainly not over my personal limit. I got a letter from HMRC 2 weeks ago saying my tax code had changed, and they had informed my past employers. According to them I've earned around £5500 and now I'm paying 20% tax on my interest, I think. I'm not sure why they would call my ...

Just doing my tax return and I'm correctly filling in my PFC dividends as foreign (i.e. jersey) income. Using the HMRC software a prompt comes up asking if the dividend s eligible for UK Dividend Tax Credit. Does anyone know the answer to this? (I can't see anything on the PFC website and my brokerage statement is notoriously wrong on issues related to foreign witholding taxes) Thanks for any ...

If, like me, you get an e-mail about a tax refund, and haven't been in contact with HMRC about one, don't open it. I got one this morning and Firefox and AVG determined that the attachments had unknown viruses attached.

Plans drawn up by HMRC show that the proposed broadband tax on households with be levied on each line and will also apply to high-speed fibre-optic connections. The sting in the tail is the tax will be subject to VAT so you are taxed on a tax. http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/...cle6932537. ece

Thanks for the link Rog2 - will have the letters at the ready in case. To marypoppins - love that name :-) Hubbie had to complete his 08-09 return, and will also have to do 09-10 next April as it's just how his accounting periods were for the business. The OR said to us that he doesnt have to do it but they would like it if he could because it draws a line under the whole matter. ...

Thanks for that rog56 I was starting to get confused, I hold offshore accounts but I am noNDOm and so do not pay any of my tax in the UK therefore I believe this NDO has nothing to do with me. I stated this to my bank after they contacted me regarding the last 'Disclosure Opportunity' a few years ago (how many have there been?) and they said that was fine. I have not been contact ...

Thanks for helping with the issue. I dug out the letter and I've got some additional information that could help with the problem. I have two letters that are both entitled PAYE Coding notice. In the first letter, it is referring to the change of tax code so that my current employers can figure out how much tax to take off the payments they give me. My new tax code for that is 551T. They ...

It looks like HMRC have dicided that you are, for tax purposes, still resident in the UK. As you have shown, you work abroad for a perio, then return to the UK. You are not outside of the UK for a full tax year, nor do you intend to permanently settle outside of the UK. As such, your earnings from the UK are still taxable. You work for a UK employer, who pay you in the UK. However, you...
