Since fitting a larger hard disk i've installed my movies and started to RIP are DVDs. Now is it worth keeping the rips or convert them to h264 MP4s? If to convert what bitrate would you choose to keep video quality? Thanks

What is it with those 'rumours' about H264 encoding on the graphics card floating about for some time? Is it really just a Snow Leo feature? I've tried to compress a 6 min Final Cut timeline into H264 at at 720/480 anamorphic. Data rate set to 900. THe resulting movie is a huge 142 megs and the movie is blotchy, not sharp like the APple trailers. Why so big and so bad? When trying to read MP4 video file coded with H264 at 1024x576 if the file is short (100-200Mb) there is no problem but if it is a complete 2h video (1,2-1,5Gb) compressed with the same parameters and codec it gives an error. Is there a limitation on file size for the MP4 H264 codec? Any other problem I tried avi mp4 and said resolution not supported. Is there any other recomended...

After Effects CS4 runs on 2 Windows XP SP3 based PCs. Both PCs are identically fully patched & have the latest version of QuickTime installed.
