Hi, I will be shooting some class photos at a school Christmas party with Santa. The groups will be no larger than 20 Kids plus a teacher and Santa. I plan on cutting all ambient and lighting the entire exposure with my flashes, here is what I have: 1 - Sigma EF 530 DG Super 1 - SB-25 2 - YN-460 CTR-301P triggers. My camera is Canon 400D and either 17-55 or 70-200 lens (...

I have to shoot a winter wedding tommorow and it is less than 10 days before the winter solstice so the light goes early and it is forecast for rain so..... The only feasible time to do a group shot of everone is in the church sheltering from the rain after the ceremony. Interestingly the church will be lit by candles and there will be limited light coming through stained glass windows. I ...

Maybe I've figured out how to share: http://i764.photobucket.com/albums/xx28 ... 2Small.jpg First 3 are all A31p's, Flexviews, the last is a regular A31. Did I mention I'm a little sick? Yes, they all work.

Got some family coming and will be trying to get a group shot of us. It will be taken indoors. No door walls but a couple of narrow and tall windows. High ceiling. Not sure if the timing will be day or night. I have 2 umbrellas, shoot through or reflective, and stands with speedlights, and one smaller (15" by 15") softbox with speedlight and stand. In addition to that I have one more ...

20 kids and staff make it a large group of almost the same sized kids. Think about arrangement of the kids, different height benches, kids on the floor, siting or kneeling. You will need lots of light to get enough depth of focus to have the first and the 3rd or 4th row in focus and hopefully even enough light so the back faces are light enough and the front row is not overexposed....

I'd like to hear how you are finding that softlighter, Tim. Have you used a lastolite Brolly box? If so, does the softliter give a noticeably different result?

Well, been so long since I've done anything like that, and have very little experience, so don't take my advice as having any weight over others'. From a quick, 1.3 second look at your diagrams, it seems to me the only difference is the diffuser light on the background, right? Can you have it there, and have it on for some shots, off for others, thus getting both of what you want and ...

Love A31's!!! I've got one myself that I'm "doing up!" (The A series are good and reliable aren't they!!) You can see my progress here viewtopic.php?f=21&t=83199 As I said on the post, I'll post pictures later today or tomorrow. If only I had that many A31's!! I'd be the HAPPIEST person in the WORLD!!

Try a barebulb flash which uses am amber filter. Such a unit is a Norman 200b, 200c or a Lumedyne. I would place it up high being careful of all shadows and reflections. Then expose for the candle light at the same time. Most likely too late to help out here, but your general method seems appropriate. The objective would be to retain the warmth of the candle lit background but to correctly light at the correct colour balance, your group. Matching the colour temperatures of your lighting would result in either orange looking people or blue looking candles depending on which way you want to colour correct them ...

Another plus for the convertible mittens. I am out in -0 weather a lot shooing eagles and those things really work. I have to agree with Tommyris95 faster glass would be the best way to go about this. Even though you could have bumped up to 6400 iso no problem and gotten a bit better shot, but faster glass would be the best way around this. There is just so much motion blur going ...
