I am looking at putting a new beavertail on a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911-A1. So far I am looking at an ED Brown with memory groove, Midway# 746615, and a Wilson High Rise, Midway# 114538. The Wilson looks like I won't have to do as much or any shaving on the back of the frame, but I also don't want a huge gap between the frame and safety. Does anyone have a possible pic of a similar job on a ...

Ok all you "do-it-yourselfers".... What is a good replacement beavertail grip saftey for my Kimber Custom Target 1911???? I need a new one and want t good quality replacement. I saw something about Ed Brown's. Anyone use them? Any other suggestions? I also want to replace the leaf spring while I'm at it. Thanks.

I installed a new beavertail grip safety in my champion. the problem I am having, is that when I pull the trigger and release it, both the trigger and grip safety, stay put. I have a fairly early release on the safety, so it disengages about 1/4 of travel. Is there any thing else I am missing? I could see binding if it released with more travel, but this has me kind of stumped. All other ...

I ordered a Kimber Tactical Bump Grip Safety from Kimber for my TLE/RL. It arrived today, so I put it on. It was a very easy drop in replacement for the factory (standard) Kimber grip safety. No fitting was required. One of the things I was curious about was how it compared to the original dimensions. Many folks on this forum have correctly stated that the amount of safety that protrudes...

I was looking at a custom 1911 a while back that didn't have a loop or spur on the hammer. Someone mentioned that the beaver tail could be ground down since the hammer will no longer be able to bite the web of the shooter's hand. I can't think of a time when I'd need to thumb the hammer back rather than simply manually cycle the slide. If a company really wanted to produce a 1911 platform gun ...

I have a series 2 Kimber that will fire when the grip safety is not depressed. This happened suddenly. The only previous modification made was a S&A magwell, and this was done way before any trouble appeared. Is the grip safety likely bad? Or any other ideas of the possible causes and fixes?

I don't care for the speed bump grip safeties. It's another on of those mods that don't really accomplish anything, if the non bump safety is fit correctly to function no matter how much it is depressed.

AreB: I have a .40 Backup. Skateboard tape helps tame the recoil, and generous radii of slide rails, rear corners, helps to reduce the cutting problem. Note I used the word..reduce.. For info purposes: The full length .40 cal mags have the spacer in the rear. So I created a slot for the heel type mag catch to go into. Reloads are now full size .40 mags. Thanks for the size comparison, ...

I got it fixed. It was the aftermarket mainspring housing. I filed off the tab a few thousandths, allowing the grip safety to rotate out a little more, allowing proper functioning. Thank you for all your responses!

Then "drop in" is the way to go. Look for one that fits closest to the stock frame tangs and go with that. You will still have to check/adjust the fit of the trigger blocking arm. Edit to add - I don't use drop ins, but I believe that those for a Colt Commander will provide the best cosmetic fit. Check with Wilson Combat to verify.

It doesn't take much of an angle, just enough so the trigger isn't help captive by the grip safety. File a little, test, file some more, test, etc. The function test is the following: with an unloaded pistol, point the muzzle straight down. Depress the grip safety, pull the trigger and hold it to the rear, release the grip safety, then release the trigger. The trigger should reset. With...
