after spending 6 days at the ritz i was surprised to hear about a rising crime rate in GC. while returning from Georgetown by cab we noticed a street closed by police. the cab driver informed us that a police officer was shot that night, and a man was killed in a popular nightclub while many people partied a few nights before that. this was quite a shock as i've read that GC was a very ...

hi i'm looking for facilities, some signature food and beautiful beach..with no rocks for kids. It sounds that Seagrape and Royal Palm are good one. Anyone has been at these two beaches and could give the comparison? Thank you!

We're staying in the Seven Mile Beach / Georgetown area with an infant (< 1 yr. old). Any suggestions for good food that we can get either (a) as take-out or (b) at a restaurant that caters to families? I've read the previous posts re: eating out with kids; this is a somewhat different question because our little guy is still sticking to bottles. Thus, we're really looking for good food ...

We are interested in going to the turtle farm but we don't want to do anything else. Are we nuts to think we can navigate our way there on our own? Any idea how much it would cost for the taxi and passes for the Turtle Farm? My daughters are 4 and 7. The 7 yr old has Celiac Disease and we want to be able to get all our food on the cruise and not risk local food. Is it reasonable to eat all ...

Hello! I just wanted to pop in and say a hello--especially to all the destination experts and other locals in Grand Cayman --as I have just moved to the island. My last seven years were spent in Bermuda, so I am excited to be on another island--and especially excited that I am now in a tropical location instead of a sub-tropical home. Thank you in advance for any...

Taxis in Grand Cayman are expensive. We've never waited more than a few minutes for any of the public transportation vans, so it's never been a problem. As for Calico Jack's, it's located on Sea Grape Beach and, as I mentioned, there's a public transportation stop right there, so it's cheap and easy to get to. It's a very nice sandy beach with clear blue water - lovely beach. The food is ...

Hi Gill, How lucky for you to live there! My husband and I are coming on Dec. 20th-25th. We are staying at the Grand Cayman Marriott. Are there any great breakfast places within walking distance? Also, do you know how the snorkeling is right offshore there? Looking forward to a great vacation! Cindi

Sdel .... We've been to Sea Grape Beach several times and really like it. In fact, we were there last week. Unfortunately, arrived home with brochitis and have not felt like doing a report. When I feel better this weekend or next week, I'll post a full report of our time there on this board. Promise!

The best option for an AI is probably The Reef Resort on the East End. It is a lovely quiet spot and for the"shopping" or staying there in general you will probably want to rent a car. The EE is more secluded than the Seven Mile Beach area so the AI is a great option. In general AI's are not hugely successful in the areas closer to shopping, etc., because it is a very safe island, ...
