Speaking strictly from the perspective of the realization of a fictional character through the use of digital effects.... which is better? Gollum, as seen in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by Peter Jackson, or the Jake Sully Avatar seen in James Cameron's Avatar.

Here I am reading The Fellowship of the Ring at the mall while the wife and daughter shop(why do they make us guys wait in boredom is another topic) and it just occured to me. Just how did Gollum catch up with the Fellowship in Moria. Weren't the double doors slammed shut and blocked off? I'm thnking maybe he came from the other side but Frodo heard his footsteps for days. Plot hole ...

especially since gollum was animated through keyframe, while Neytiri was wholly Zoe's creation and performance. the blue cg model is just a costume - its zoe that breathed a soul into it. Hey Titanic Haters! http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j176/cgalex22007 /chase_062.jpg

I find myself gripped in a bitter argument -- with myself -- about the fate of health care reform. It's sort of like watching the schizophrenic Gollum in the Lord Of The Rings saga fight angrily with himself over how to deal with Frodo: "the master is so nice to me, he takes care of me and wants to help me" vs. "I will strangle him, I will crush his head against the rocks, I...

Don't get me wrong, the Lord of The Rings trilogy was great and I was impressed with how Gollum turned out. But when I saw Avatar only a few hours ago, I thought the Na'vi made Gollum look fake by comparison (I was completely blown away). This is gonna win the Visual Effects Oscar without a doubt. Any other opinions?

I highly disagree. Gollum looks like a cartoon compared to the complex emotions conveyed in Neytiri's face. Saldana's Neytiri is one of the greatest characters ever put on film if you ask me. If she isn't recognized for that, that'd be a shame.

I watched the movie last night (i've seen it many times) and i came up with a few things i didn't quite understand. 40:00 min...It seems like everyone already knows who Gollum is...how? It showed Bilbo take the ring and just run offf...he didnt appear to take down Gollums name. And when Gandalf went to Minas Tirath, how did he happen to come upon documents that Gollum had been taken by "the ...

I have been looking everywhere online for the Academy rules on performances by actors; but haven't been able to find out whether Saldana's performance is eligible for Oscar or not. I know that Serkis wasn't eligible for his performance as Gollum because the performance was 100% digitally altered/enhanced. But I don't know if they've changed that rule yet. If anybody has a definite answer (...

Yesterday, the Rude Pundit specifically cited unfeeling machines that are sucking the lifeforce out of human beings as one of the primary reasons we leave the first decade of the millenium as isolated, soulless zombies clinging Gollum-like to our precious material goods while hawking ourselves in public like each of us is publicist, pimp, and whore rolled into one. Today,...

All humans with speaking parts where clearly real. There might be some digital doubles in the background of wide shots, but nothing demanding detail... much the way they were used through out Lord of the Rings also.

For stuff that matters, a Parker ball pen (black fine) or a Nikon pen with a blue fine Parker refill. I've got a whole bunch of other ones - charity ones, which are usually rubbish; a couple I've been given by a local store and for taking part in a MORI poll in Luton, several Fujifilm ones, etc etc which are used for everyday things.

All this stuff goes on without any of us knowing about it doesn't it? I think that the UK govt, really doesn't want us to have any power, and even the removal of cameras ( which can be used to gather evidence against them as much as us) are potentially a weapon against the state! Lol I am only worried about the pranoia/fear sort of state which kicks in when we are really hopelessly robbed ...
