When I change my fuel filter I put a temporary hose on the output of the filter and cycle the lift pump until I see fuel. It works great, but is it hard on glow plugs to do that?

Right, so I am a VW TDI neophyte and have no idea as to if there is even supposed to be a dash light for glow plugs. I have a 1999.5 Golf TDI and am wondering what the cold-weather starting procedures are. I thought I was supposed to warm up the glow plugs before turning the engine over, but when I turn the key, there is no indicator on the dash. I figure it's either one of two things; ...

Received the answer why my glows burned, it could be due to "" voltage allowed to flow for too long"" Apparently NGK does not know that Mercedes as an after glow... Therefore, they should check their ability to withstand MB engenering, or just says that they are not compatable. Simple. Anyway, NGK and Merc, nope.

I've searched the forum and I've found several themes. No Autolite gp's. Motorcraft ZD9's seem to have a generally positive following, then there are some who say Berus, and I saw one who advocated Wellmans. I am planning to replace the the GP Controller with a manual switch and relay, and intend to replace the gp's at that time to eliminate all gp related issues. Truck is hard to start in ...

Hi All, I am having a recurring issue with my glow plugs in my 2000 Galloper II TDIC. In the past 8 months I have gone through 6 plugs and my mechanic is blaming it on inferior aftermarket parts. I live in Costa Rica and can't locate any OEM plugs. Is it plausible that aftermarket plugs are such poor quality? Is there anything else that can cause premature failure of plugs? Does anyone...

Well, I finished my two day project of replacing the fuel pump and glow plugs on my '97 California model PSD and now she won't start I figured that it would take a good amount of cranking to get the air purged through all the lines, but I think I've ran my battery down from turning the engine over so much. Things I've checked so far: -Fuel filter cannister is full. -Seems to be ...

My Gendan cable came this morning and all works fine! I'm using VAG-COM version 409.1 and it allowed me to clear the glow plug fault code. The only problem is I don't have a laptop so I had to set my desktop PC up on the driveway

People, good people, use the factory GP system, even as far south as MN. Yes for some stupid reason I replaced the GP controller, and this made me realize that it did not need replacing. I kept it around for 2 years, fell off a shelf and broke.

I should add that if the symptom is hard starting at moderate temperatures, wrong injection timing is the most common fault - NOT problems with the glow plug system. Yes, forcing the glow plugs on will make it start easier, but that's "covering up" the real problem as opposed to "fixing" the real problem.
