Dear Support, I had the wizard for Windows Genuine Advantage Notification popup when I logged in. I cancelled out of it becuase I didnt know what it was and I am suspicious of unsolicited messages asking me to download something. Even though I cancelled out of it, I believe it still installed something on machine. After that, when I shutdown the machine an update message appeared on the shutdown...

A recently downloaded MS Windows (XP) security patch seems to have "helpfully" reset my auto updates setting from my preferred notify and let me choose setting to auto-update (I most certainly didn't change it myself). I thusly now find my trusty road warrior machine prompting me to complete the installation of the cursed Windows Genuine Advantage rubbish. While in fact the fine laptop is ...

I'm trying to diagnose a badly hosed WinXP laptop. I've already scanned for viruses & malware. After boot, I get a screen that says "Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications - Installation Wizard". (I'm assuming that the user had selected this install from Windows Update). Problem (well, it's just one of the problems) is that 2/3rds of the way through the install, the computer ...

Or, if you prefer, the same program to remove WGA is available right here on this web site: http://majorgeeks.com/RemoveWGA_d5170.html A simple Google search can and usually will answer almost any question you may have, if you just condense your problem to a few simple words, like: "remove WGA". That's how I found the above link. Try it next time you have a problem. Happy Holidays! ...

Hello MrDMA, You wrote, "This is a XP fix, not an office fix, but I applied the suggestions on that KB page anyway." Even though the update that is being installed is an Office Genuine Advantage update, your issue is a problem with Windows Updates. If you continue to encounter problems, please follow up with the support options on the Windows Update Solution Center page.
