As we are now exactly 6 months away from the expected date of the next General Election (6 May 2010) I thought now was the time to set up a thread for it in the same vein of the US Election thread last year. My aim is that it will become the place to come to for news, gossip and commentary about the next election. Do feel free to post!

The last possible day on which it can be called is June 3rd 2010. However, labour activists are highly likely to stay at home if Brown leaves it to this date as their job will become almost impossible with cries of 'coward' on every doorstep. So, another possible date is May 6th - having it on this day would mean it is held at the same time as English local elections, thus saving money....

Like many of us, I shall email all the local candidates before next year's general election and ask them their views on ID cards. Without wishing to construct an inflexible standard letter, what other database-state points do you think such an email should raise ? _________________ http://www.amazon.co.uk/Indentity-Cards-Barry-Tigh e/dp/0956302807/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=125 4129276&sr=...

All I heard these days is blame, blame, from both parties didn't know to when they will actually be serious about the election. No preparation, no concrete info- on how the Diasporas should vote. Al-Bashir has been confirmed by his party officials as their candidate whereas splm's candidate is not yet been nominated. what really is going on in Sudan?

The PAP have made a messed of things. Despite their million dollar salaries they have proven to be incompetent. 60 per cent of the people residing in Singapore are now foreigners. The citizens have lost their jobs. The party is now divorced from reality. Just like in Japan, the people will vote for the opposition. Change is coming to Singapore and foreign companies who exploit the people will...

It appears Opposition leader Perry Christie has garnered some support over the last two years since losing the government to the Free National Movement (FNM) in May 2007, according to a poll conducted by the National Polling Committee of the Workers Party. Mr. Christie, according to the results, is the most popular candidate for the leadership post of the country come 2012. Those that ...

With just days to go before the election, Virginia Democrats are getting desperate. In the race to become the commonwealth's next attorney general, state Delegate Stephen Shannon is trying to tar his opponent, state Sen. Ken Cuccinelli, for purportedly giving guns to convicted felons. Mr. Shannon is sending around literature with a scary picture of a violent criminal claiming: "FACT: Ken ...

It's the day after election day and the results for many state and local elections are rolling in. Some predictable wins and some upsets. Speaking in general, do you think those individuals who could be classified as gadflies, or persistent vocal critics of government make good legislators or function well in the role of public official when they win an election?
