I've found a pair of composite head gaskets on ebay for about £17, and a set of 20 head bolts for about £20. Firstly - do they sound good prices? Is there anywhere better to buy from? Secondly - as standard do I need anything else? any other seals etc?

Any particular reason most people use composite head gaskets as opposed to steel ones? When I put my engine together I used felpro's, but recently found some steel ones that I want to use to bump compression. Any cons to the steel ones? I know the coolant passages are larger, but will this be an issue? Also, how much compression is gained by this? Thanks.

Remove all Advertisements When rebuilding my pig, I bought a non-OEM gasket kit online. I wouldn't do it again, but regardless here I am. So the cylinder head gasket and cylinder head cover gasket are both 3-layer metal gaskets. However it appears from the old ones I took off that there was some kind of coating on them (maybe silicon?). Is this a ...

I've got AFR Elim.195cc heads and LPP longtube headers, which header gaskets should I use. I had to pull my headers off for some work and need gaskets, but will the Felpro 1404's that AFR says to use leak? AFR has some what of a square port and LPP's are enlarged D-port

I think I've read most of the valve cover gasket threads here and have seen a number of cost estimates, but I'm trying to determine labor time for the job. What is a reasonable or standard time estimate (not $) for a shop (not me) to replace both valve cover gaskets and timing chain tensioner gaskets on a 2000 V6 Passat? I'm doing some reverse detective work on a job already done ...

Remove all Advertisements Has anyone figured out a good way to reuse gaskets? the cost and all the scraping involved have me looking for a better way. Can you precoat them with oil, silicone, or silicone one side so they stick to one side. and does it adversly affect sealing qualitys? Thanks Crew
