Just a question from a newbie to you hardcore fans out there Loved LOTR and my personal favourite character was gandalf. But... I was left wanting more. Apart from shooting sunlight at the nazgul and the flame of uru with the balroc he didnt seem to exhibit anything spectacular with his powers. I have read the part in the Lord of the Rings several times where Gandalf fought the Balrog and became Gandalf the White instead of Grey. What I don't understand is did he die and came back to life as the White and who promoted him? Wasn't Sauroman the White? So did he get demoted? If so who did the promoting and demoting? Our rooster, Gandalf is making our 4 hens backs bald with his efforts. Would it be advisable for me to pen him separately with our 2 young roosters(he does not put up with nonsense from them and they obey him- but not in that way..) for a couple of months so they can have a bit of peace until spring He is a naughty boy! They must be sick of him.

Imprisoning Gandalf would have been much less likely to result in a clash of Maiaric proportions than trying to take the ring from him. I don't know that Saruman would really have seen any benefit in taking Narya anyway, as the recovery of the One by Sauron would have become problematic for any keeper of the Three.
