re: Rob's find in Myra's Journal Were ladies more hirsute in those days, or has the lady pictured been using joke soap? Gamages Catalogue had similar practical jokes at similar prices in the early fifties (including joke soap that made your hands and face black!)
Vintage Tape Recorders

My father had exactly the same machine except that it was not badged "Majestic" but was ordered from Gamages by mail order. Same case but in two tone grey. It gave excellent service until he changed over to cassettes. The only dodgy point was the edgewise controls. They suffered from dry joints, aggravated by the mounting position. A nice acquisition!

I always thought that Fitzrovia was named after Fitzroy Square as well -- but it seems that both the pub and the square were named after the same chap: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitzrovia Actually, I've been wondering for some time who the original bastard prince was that the name came from originally... (Fitz meaning bastard and Roy meaning king, natch.) Loads of bus routes ...
