I was at Salcedo Market recently and meron isang Caucasian guy na may kasamang apat na batang Pinay. The children were aged around 8 to 14 maybe. Decent naman yung pananamit nila, pero kahit mga tindero and tindera napapatingin. Narinig ko pa, "sana lang ampon," ...

Once in camp, a big french kid came up to me and spat at my feet. He then pointed to the loogey and said, "you... scummy?" In Madrid, I was verbally abused by a neo-nazi. I wouldn't lend him some money, so he called me "impure" and told me to "go back to your own country" (hilarious considering he wasn't even in his). Also in Madrid, some fucker threw a bottle at me from a moving car. It ...

I can't see how anyone could argue that the child should be with anyone but the father. The mother unilaterally decided not to come back to America. The father fought long and hard to get back custody and I have not read any reports indicating he was a "jerk". The Brazilian grandparents were rather well off and used their leverage with the Brazilian courts to delay the process. Finally justice...

"On the far windowsill, a large, warty piece of galangal hung suspended in its matrix like an embryo, while a ceramic plat on the sideboard labored under ten tiers of lucky bamboo." (The Foreigner, Francie Lin) What does the phrase "in its matrix" mean here?

"My hand was scattered: a mixing of winds and dragons, with a head of bamboo ones and a few copper tiles, several shy of a short straight." (The Foreigner, Francie Lin) The protagonist-speaker is playing mahjong, and this is the tiles he got at the outset. By "with a head of bamboo ones", does he mean a pair of bamboo one tiles, or just any two bamboo tiles?
