Is there such a thing as an external floppy cable terminator? My S-100 system can run with 2 or 3 8" floppies at a time. 2 of the drives are in the dual enclosure with one terminated. But when I add the 3rd external drive to the chain, I currently have to pull the terminators off the 2nd drive, which means popping the case open. I'd prefer to just keep the end of the cable terminated and add/...

Hi folks, last night I removed the floppy drive from my PC (I never use it and plan to replace it with a caddy of USB and card reader slots). The removal went fine, but upon firing the computer up it stopped during post saying it had encoundered an error "40" associated with the floppy drive. I hit DEL to enter the BIOS and disabled boot option 3 (which was the floppy), saved and ...

I just completed some cleanup work on my dual floppy drive enclosure (QumeTrak 842 drives) and ran into something that confused me. Perhaps one of you has seen this before and can provide some insight. After using my system a lot over the past week, I noticed the drive doors were starting to stick a little bit. Sometimes, the drive would open right up with no problem. Other times, it would ...

Ok, just recently (less than one day ago) I gained an emulated floppy drive (A:) on my computer. This makes no sense as I have not installed one. I noticed it after I defragmented my hard drives and then went to play a game which told me to disable all emulation software. Does anyone have any idea why I suddenly received this drive? I am currently using Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit....

Well like it was posted, orginally this thread started out trying to move files from the 360k floppies to the Apple. There are any number of ways to do that. I can't imagine what use an XT would have writing to files on any floppy outside of the DOS standard of 360-720-1.2-1.44 . That can as we have seen, by SCSI, parallel port and now via a smart USB interface. All relating to the original ...

Hard Disks

If you're going to install Windows so that it boots from the RAID array, then you will have to install early in the process the RAID drivers from an external source. Up to Win XP, the only external device the Install routines could access was a floppy drive. But in both Vista and Win 7, they also can use a USB flash drive as the medium containing the drivers - that is hinted at in the first ...
