Reportedly the pilot had been warned about the fog, but he was determined to make it home to see his family. According to press reports, his wife had been tracking the flight on FlightAware, and heard the emergency calls on a local scanner....

I am new to FlightAware and I am very impressed! However, where can I find basic instructions on how to use the system? For example, sometimes aircraft tracks appear, other times they don't, but I don't know why. I hope someone can help. Graham

I was channel surfing and saw a full-screen image of DL1085's flight track on my TV, and saw the reporter explaining all about FlightAware and how it's more oriented for the professional than a novice flight tracker. The story wasn't about DL1085, he was just displaying it as an example. Nice publicity for FA, and the reporter didn't even make any of the typical mistakes ("an ...

Where and how does flightaware.com acquire all of the aircraft tracking data? Did they bid and win a contract with the FAA to do what they are currently doing? I cannot think of any other way that they would be able to get that data streamed to themselves. Hopefully someone knows! I've tried researching this but had no luck at all.

Note in the beginning, that is haze below me, not a cloud deck. Very weird to see haze that thick in the winter down here.

On what should be a very busy travel day... look at the bonanzas/debbies/and barons in the system. Not many. http://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/ Weather is a real travel problem in part of the country. Most folks are listening to that little voice inside. Fly safe and avoid the Holiday get-there-itis germ. Leldon

FlightAware Flight Tracker a 1981 Piper Turbo Aztec F N2484R. Aircraft was just recently sold, and was flying yesterday from KFXE to KMPV with two persons on board. A corporate jet picked up emergency transmissions and relayed them to FAA, who notified USCG. Aircraft was reported to be descending at 1200 fpm at an altitude of 2000 feet, 10 miles from land - after ...
