If every body ate nothing but salmon and flax seed would I be able to sell corn fed beef as a good source of Omega 6? Ok, hypotheticals aside, my question is are omega 3s better for you that omega 6, or is it just the ratio that is Important. 2 Replies ( last )

Is flax meal just ground up flax seed? Can I just make flax meal at home by toasting golden flax seed then grinding it to a powder via a food processor? Also, how do you toast flax seed? What temperature and for how long?

Has anyone ever cooked with it? (the actual seed, not flax seed oil). What does it taste like? Is it hard, soft, inbetween? Just wondering....It is very high in Omega-3 fatty acids, and has the lowest caloric count. I was thinking about trying to eat some on the days I don't do the salmon. But I have no clue as to how to prepare it or what it taste like.

So I hear Flax Seed can cause prostate cancer in men, but it is fine for women. Is this true? Is it dangerous for men? Has anyone else ever heard anything like this, please add. Thanks.

I made my own flax seed gel yesterday (blog post will be here by tonight) and I like it a lot, but I wasn't happy with the way the sweet orange essential oil smelled. I think it didn't play well with the agave nectar smell. So I'm looking for suggestions for other essential oil scents, especially some that play well with agave nectar

Hmmm I just can't seem to find out IF 1000mg of Flax seed oil is enough or overkill. Or do I need to take 3000mg? Any thoughts? :p I'm putting in an order for vitamins (sweetish bitter from Gaia) and so, I'm going to get this too. Probably will get my cod liver oil locally as I know big, glass bottles(like Carlson's) tend to make it through international shipping, broken. :p...

I am glad you know that corn fed beef is full of omega-6 fatty acids. If you eat an excess of omega-6 fat, it's not good for your body... it is the ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that makes all the difference. Ideally people should eat a 2 to 1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3s... and unfortunately... not too many people attain this. Eating flaxseed & salmon & grass-fed beef is a ...

Yes, flour meal is just ground up flax seeds. I don't toast them. The meal is usually made from the dark seeds, not the golden, which is why it looks darker. I imagine you toast them by putting them in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring pretty constantly, until the brown a bit. Like other seeds.
