QUESTION: I know you do not know the UK market, but you may at least know the principles involved. 10 years ago, I took a 10-year, fixed interest loan, with fixed payments each month. For 9 years and 9 months, I paid exactly the same amount. Suddenly, the bank (“Mortgage Express”) tripled the last 3 payments, without notification, explanation or warning! I wrote demanding an ...

Of my liquid or near-liquid investments I currently have about 88% in equities, 9% in genuine long term cash deposits (1 year fixed rate building society deposits) and about 3% in instant access cash. I am 50 and somewhere in the middle of the risk-aversion scale. Although I am comfortable with my equity portfolio and the level of risk associated with the shares I hold, I would like to ...

I'm trying to find a suitable fund in my Sippdeal pension which is very low risk but pays a better rate of interest than the 0.1% offered in their Bank of Scotland cash account. I've looked at a number of Corporate Bond Funds but the capital is not 100% safe. Any suggestions ?? Geoff

Interested to know how much fixed interest people are carrying in their overall portfolios. My impression is that lots of articles in the popular press mention that we should all have decent %age, but private investors largely ignore this advice and are overexposed to equities. So, excluding floating rate cash and emergency funds, how much fixed interest do you carry in your portfolio? ...

Article from The Economist - investors are hungry for opportunities and the most action is happening in the Emerging Economies so you cannot say there is not an appetite for risk. $332 billion has moved from fixed interest to the equity markets this year - shouldn't we be after a slice of that ? This can be achieved by informing and raising awareness - not pumping ! http://www.economist.com...
