I had my fistula repaired this morning!! I have a catheter for a wile, but the big news is that I am not leaking for the first time in months!! My fistula is a vaginal one and it was located in the cervical cuff. It wasn't very big, but it was attached to the bladder close to the bottom of the bladder, hence the almost constant leaking. I hope this stays ...

Every once in a while I press my husbands fistula and there is always a very strong pulse/electric current going through it. Today though, it felt the weakest it ever has. Maybe the way he was lying, I don't know. It certainly did not feel like his blood was "charging" through. Just a little bit. It's in his forearm. Fairly new about 3 years old. My question is should this current that I feel ...

Hi, Had an ultrasound on my fistula. I was worried becuase my surgeon said i might have to get two veins tied off becuase my fistula didn't appear to be growing. Well, saw the other vas surgeon (my surgeon dubbed him the fistula genius) and he said that it is a lovely fistula, growing nicely but there is a narrowing mid arm, so he is going to try to fit me in either before xmas or in the first ...

Hello Everyone, I have been reading this site for some time now and finally decided to have surgery on my fistula. Fistula started as abscess about 3 years ago. I have put off the inevitable for three long years. Went to a colorectal surgeon and he told me that only option would be to have surgery. Surgery was yesterday under general anesthesia. Woke up from anesthesia feeling ...

Hi!! I had a really huge painful anal abscess (my first one) burst on its own about 2.5 weeks ago. I went straight away to a colorectal surgeon to get it drained, and it seemed to be healing pretty good. She said that it didn't seem like a fistula would form. Now fastforward to last friday, so about 2 weeks after the surgery. I had another smaller one burst. This one is ...

Any folks here cannulate their fistula without putting some kind of topical anesthetic (like EMLA Cream) on it first? I find having to apply the anesthetic cream a bit of an inconvenience--and if cannulation wouldn't hurt too much, I would just as well forgo it. But those 16 gauge needles look a bit scary, and I wonder if they really hurt.

So I have the first of 2 surgeries tomorrow to get my fistula. My veins are really really small so they have to do it at my elbow and do a first stage. Then in 6 weeks they are going to move my vein because I drain really odd and the only vessel they can use is the bassilic wein. So to make it usable they are going to cut from my elbow to my armpit and move my entire vein to the top of my arm so ...

I had prostate and bladder cancer and the treatment involved direct radiation. I had my bladder removed and they put a hole in my colon. I currently wear two bags. The gastrological surgeon cut me in the perineum and tried to fix the hole by putting a flap over the hole. The place where he cut me in the perineum will not heal as it continues to leak about 1/2 ounce a day. Does anyone know of a ...

I noticed a couple days ago a slight, yet persistent, butt itch so I checked it out and discovered a tiny hole right above my anus. There wasn't and hasn't been any discharge or pain, just itch. < edited > with fistulas there is always pain if it is near that area. The itchiness subsided was calmed after I took a hot bath, but it's the whole "if you think about it, it's all you notice" thing ...

Hey everyone, I've been laying low lately, but there were a few people going through the same kinds of things I have been, so I just wanted to update. I was on cipro and flagyl for the last few months, while the docs tried to decide what was wrong with me and if I actually did have a fistula and/or abscess. I had an abscess drained this summer (that had lived inside me for 4 years) but...
For those of you who have dealt with the enterocutaneous fistula's, what did you use to collect the drainage? I've been just using large bandages, or gauze pads and tape, but this morning, I've already leaked through 3 gauze pads. Typically, I do not have this much output in such a short period of time. I'm just curious, since the supplies do get expensive. Thanks, Angela

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good neurosurgeon in Charlotte or even in North Carolina who has a lot of experience with Chiari? My Dad just started receiving dialysis (M,W,F @ 4hrs ea day) and I want to try to help him find something to do. He has trouble using his right hand, and the fistula is in his left wrist. I got him a portable CD player and ear phones so that he can listen to books on cd as well as music, but what do most people do when they are on dialysis? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
