Hi, would appreciate comments on this issue. Recently bought a three year old X3 with 25k on the clock. The car cuts out very easily when taking off in first gear. When cold it exhibits a shuddering on take off in first. Garage claims there is nothing wrong but it cut on on the mechanic when he tested it in my presence. I can overcome this by being very careful and making sure to use...

Did a few searches and couldn't find anything on this issue. Just replaced the clutch a few months ago, however it seems that from a stop in neutral into first can be tough even when the clutch pedal is fully engaged. I've heard it could be the master/slave cylinder going bad, or just a clutch pedal adjustment. It's on an 01 2.5rs. Anyone else have this issue?

Well I finally got a first gear start transmission valve body installed from a 1995 E420 model and the car became a whole other animal. The valve body works exceptionally well and gives me a chance to have a quick a change to 2nd gear with very light pedal pressure and with a normal pressure the car jumps off the line. This valve body holds the first gear up to 29mph and under 8mph I get the ...

its a complete waste of a gear for regular driving. it has no good range of speed per rpm. ya ya i know theres times when 1st gear is a necessity but 80% of the time it just pisses me off. my rant for the night... Being that the first gears are different, what "feel" of take off is lost between the two transmissions ? I've got my choice between a 700r4 from a blazer/astro or a 2004r from a buick estate or deville. The deville is an '83 the wagon '90, is lockup controlled by ecm in '90 ? Highway RPMs would be alittle lower with the 200, the unit weights less I suppose alittle better gas mileage...

Keep your 3.42s , I had 3.08s in mine along with the 2004R and off the line it was a Dog , I got 24 Mpg on the highway though with it ,the 700R4 would be better suited to the 3.08s because of the lower first gear , But ,,, the 700R4 has a wide gap in ratio`s between 1rst & 2nd gears , thus I like the 2004R for the better ratio`s ,, Bill

THat center support bearing should have a little play in it, but not much. They are pretty cheap to replace, like 50 bucks or so. Still, the springs could be wrapping if the bushings are worn or you have alot of torque-which is evident. Need traction bars if thats the case....

well.. my 750 reads 90mph topped out in 1st, given teh speedo is inaccurate by about 10 mph at that speed i'd say 80mph is top on the 750.... the 600 should be very close, i believe i have read somewhere that the gearing is identical on the 750 as the 600 but the600 redlines at 16k and the 750 at 15k. in 1st gear the extra 1k rpm shoulnd make too much of a difference in speed, a few mph at best, ...
