OK I've been on PC's for years video editing with Adobe Premiere and like a fool I bought an I Mac with FCE 4.00 to edit with because it does AVCHD. I just upgraded to FCE 4.01 and I can no longer log and transfer files from my Sony HDR-SR11 AVCHD which uses USB 2 as its connection. I made transfers earlier today prior to the upgrade. On a related note, I updated iMovie '08 and it no longer imports files from Sony HDR-SR11. Any suggestions would be appreciated....

I solved it, at least mine. In the Log and Transfer window in the middle top of the screen there is a gear icon with a drop down arrow. Click on it and select Preferences. In the right hand drop down box next to AC-3 Audio it will say Matrix Stereo. Click on the arrows and select Plain Stereo. Import will now work...

The material is available to registered users. It's not available from a web site. If it's not appearing in Software Update in the Apple menu you should contact Apple. You'll need the serial number.  

This update is AWESOME for anyone using any of the latest (canon) AVCHD cameras. I personally use the HF-10 and had to use the HDV-AIC 1080i60 easy setup. After the initial encoding in log and transfer was done, more rendering was needed after pulling clips into the timeline!! and it took forever! I think it was scaling down the 1920x1080 content to 1440x1080. AFTER UPDATE-...

PSD and TIFF are fine. Just make the file the right size, positioned correctly, with transparency, bring it to FCE and place it.

That would seem logical, but does not work in FCE, according to a well known developer who wrote a custom tiling generator for me, precisely because there is no way to get FCE's built-in tiling filter (or any filter, for that matter) to process video in any manner other than field-by-field. I'll ask him if he minds my revealing his name....
