Water purification by filtration I usually use bottled water when travelling and carry a small ceramic filter unit (0.2um) with me for emergency (lack of bottles) or for trekkings. Is it wise to use this filter also for purifying the water that comes from taps in ...

Recently got my friend into the saltwater hobby, and he bought a 14 gallon biocube, I told him its more difficult to care for a smaller system. But he said he was up for the challenge. We started setting it up today, and wasn't sure how affective the bioball filtration in the tank was. I was just thinking about pulling the bio balls out and adding rubble rock and some chaeto algae. Does anyone ...

Asahi's trial info regarding filtration efficacy. I am going to be upgrading my 46G to a 90G, and my 75G to a 120G. I am trying to figure out what filtration to use in my setup. I prefer canister filters over HOB filters. The 120 will house 1-2 oscars, and possible a trio of smaller tankmates. The 90G will be a South American community low light planted tank. I currently have an Rena XP3 and a Rena XP4. I just purchased ...

I want to upgrade my filtering system with the addition of marine plants (macroalgae) so that Macro algae absorbs the nutrients that nuisance algae needs to survive. Im just starting with salt, and trying to learn all I can to avoid as many beginners mistakes as possibleat least more than Ive already made (see below). My goal for now is to start with FOWLER, but to add inverts later. Im expecting at least 6 months before I have a fairly finished system. Patience is usually one of my long suits, though it can fail me from time to time. I ...

Added more fish to 20 long-near overstocked? Yesterday I bought 7 Harlequin Rasboras. The tank now has 7 White Clouds, 2 Skunk Corys, 3 Albino Cories, and the Rasboras. Filtration is AC 50 HOB and AC 20 powerhead with quick filter attachment. Is this near overstocking or still a fairly light bioload?...

Okay, I know how to cycle a tank. Just finished cycling my new nano aquarium. My question regards my brother-in-law's tank. They currently have a 50 gallon corner unit that we have been looking to replace because of filtration issues (not enough room for sump/fuge, etc) and inadequate lighting for corals. They are going today to look at a 65 gallon aquarium/sump/MH lights/UV sterilizer system...

I have never had a seahorse before and i would like to change that. Recently i purchased an octopus tank but i decided i would get seahorses so the tank should have plenty of filtration and supplies because it is suited for an octopus (octopuses need 3x the normal tank).Right now my only questions are how many seahorses should i get in a 55 gallon tank (not the seahorses that need a tall tank ...

Just had a visit from a salesman with my interest in getting a "whole house filtration system" for our water supply (city water, Granbury, TX). The water here has about as much chlorine as a pool does and it's soft water, but has a whole bunch of 'crud' in it regardless. So soft water with hard particulate in it. All this means is when you take a shower you have a hard time rinsing of the soap...
