Dear IV Board I am trying to email a file to someone but they cannot open it at their end, the error message says that they do not have permission. When I right-click on the file and list the permissions I get the following: Owner: KD Access: Read and write Group: root Access: None Others: Access: None Whenever I try to change any of the permissions they change back a moment ...

I have two Fedora computers. One is running 11 and one is newly upgraded to 12. I have a simple fstab line to mount a file with type cifs and no other options except for username and password. When mounted on the Fedora 11 computer the directories have permission drwxrwxrwx and the files have permissions -rwxrwxSrwx. In Fedora 12 the perrmissions are drwxr-xr-x and files are -rwxr-xr-x. I ...

Hi, I have been asked to set up permissions on a folder (Windows 2003 Server) to restrict only a few domain users from seeing and accessing this folder, and I'm looking for advice on how best to do this. What I want to do is: I have a share on the server that has several folders with subfolders. One a particular subfolder, I want the subfolder and files in it to only be seen...

Does anybody know anything about file permissions? I couldn't find any other section to post this so I hope this is a good section. Anyway I have a website that has chat rooms. I have been having this problem... When you try to enter a chat room that chat room window turns into its own browsing window which shows a copy of my index page. This started a few days ago. I contacted the script maker ...

I have a frustrating problem on my work server. Currently the system is set up with a Public directory shared using Samba. The directory tree is divided into a number of branches, each with a corresponding permissions group for access control purposes (i.e. directory "dir1" and all its contents are owned by the group dir1, "dir2" by dir2, and so on). The group ID bit is set on all of them ...

It looks like in the version 2.8.5 it is necessary to change file permissions in order to make an edit in the theme editor. I didn't have to do this with previous version. Though I know how to use FTP to alter a file's permissions setting, I am not sure (1)which file or folder I am supposed to change and (2) what permission to change it to. For instance I am trying to edit "footer.php". At ...

I can't seem to delete files in a LINUX/UNIX environment I am using. I am running Helix from an ISO cd. I have tried a few different things but I am unable to delete files, as I lack sufficient permission to do so. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks

I am not writing files to the CD, so I am not deleting them from there either. Helix must write files to the local machine somehow. Just can't figure out how to delete them without rebooting.

Hello, I'm having issues with file permissions. The user on the server isn't the owner of the wordpress files and I can't change the file permissions via FTP. Each time, I have to change the permissions using SSH and then update wordpress. How can I definitively prevent this problem from occuring ? Any help welcome !

I just want to confirm something concerning the security permissions on file sharing for Windows Server 2003. 1- Sometime I see : CREATOR OWNER and SYSTEM (SYSTEM has full control) Do we need to add those accounts or we have just to put a user and grp that should have acces to it? 2- Usually I put "everyone" in Windows security and put just a specific grp in NTFS security. Is that ...

I have started getting the following error on one of our database servers this week. " The file '\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\ASConfig\msmdredir.ini' could not be opened. Please check the file for permissions or see if other applications locked it." The server is SQL2005 SP2 with 2 names instances installed. I am not really a DB administrator so I am not sure what this ...

M$ just won't give control of the OS to the users. I can't fathom their reasoning. My situation is I use Windows Home Server to store all my media files. My server is in my basement and all my PCs are scattered about the house on a wired/wireless network. When I attempt to manage files from the satellite PCs I get random denials of service with msgs. such as: "You Need Permission" and "File is ...

Sorry, I missed your mention of ACLs in the first post. I am not using Samba with ACL – each client has an account on the server and Linux does all the authentication from there. I have no experience of using ACL, but the Google results are not encouraging ...

I have the same issue but slightly different. When I go to me work email and try and download an excel file that someone sends me it gives me the only an administrator can save this file. Then is asks me if I would like to save it elsewhere and when I select yes it does nothing.

I am still really confused. (1)Do I need to change the permissions on the "footer.php" file only or on the whole folder it's in? And (2) what exactly should the permission be? I can't believe this has been made so complicated in this version when it worked so well in previous versions!!!!!!!! I know I could just pull the file out, edit it and reupload. Done. But I would like for my client...
