I have two Fedora computers. One is running 11 and one is newly upgraded to 12. I have a simple fstab line to mount a file with type cifs and no other options except for username and password. When mounted on the Fedora 11 computer the directories have permission drwxrwxrwx and the files have permissions -rwxrwxSrwx. In Fedora 12 the perrmissions are drwxr-xr-x and files are -rwxr-xr-x. I have a frustrating problem on my work server. Currently the system is set up with a Public directory shared using Samba. The directory tree is divided into a number of branches, each with a corresponding permissions group for access control purposes (i.e. directory "dir1" and all its contents are owned by the group dir1, "dir2" by dir2, and so on). The group ID bit is set on all of them ...

It looks like in the version 2.8.5 it is necessary to change file permissions in order to make an edit in the theme editor. I didn't have to do this with previous version. Though I know how to use FTP to alter a file's permissions setting, I am not sure (1)which file or folder I am supposed to change and (2) what permission to change it to. For instance I am trying to edit "footer.php". At ...

I can't believe this has been made so complicated in this version when it worked so well in previous versions!!!!!!!! I know I could just pull the file out, edit it and reupload. Done.
