This is an opinion question. Some people out there don't think games need a story nor cool graphics as long as it has a solid competitive fighting engine. Others don't ever play online and just concern themselves with watching the endings of each character and then discussing the story with fellow players. Do you think a good story is important in fighting games?

You fight in them. They use martial arts like fighting games, only difference is that they can grapple and/or tap out when in a submission.

DS2 (13.5) has been asking for a PS3 for ages (thanks for all of those who have given advice on my thread asking about that). He has been asking today why I won't allow 'fighting games'. According to him just about all the kids at school play them online with each other and that I am really mean as I've always said no to them. My reasons are quite simply, I just don't get the fighting...

It's obvious isn't it? The main character gets the most face time in ads, therefore he'll be more appealing to newcomers and the like. Not to mention that he's usually one of the better characters since he is important to the "story". Honestly, would you even play the game if it's main fighters sucked ass?

I've put in some serious time with Final Fantasy: Dissidia, Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny, and Street Fighter Alpha 1 and 2 and found all controlled very well.

Unless they are purposely removed then of course. But anytime you have a jump that is cancel-able with and air dash then yeah you're gonna get IADs.

I'm going with Tekken 6. although I have been playing SF IV lately on ps3 and x360. and that game is sweet. I just scored the Tekken 6 fighter stick with game and art book on Amazon lighting deals yesterday. for $59.98! I already have the game but couldn't pass up the deal on the stick. guess I'll trade in my extra copy at goozex for Borderlands or Forza 3.
