Are southbend ferrules hollow? I have to do some work on a 290 and pulled off the female ferrule. It was jammed on over an inch 1/4 and the ferrule was hollow when i pulled it off. Is that normal? The rod looked like it had some spot repairs on it. Not sure if anything was done to it or not. Thanks Toby

I've never wrapped with silk before so this should be an adventure. I'll be using Pearsall's Gossamer thread for the guides, but should I use the same for wrapping the ferrules, or should I go up a size and use the Naples on the ferrules (because of the "step-up")? Thanks in advance. John
I have a complete set of 4-in-line tuners from an SX bass for sale. Chrome, 20:1, 11/16" diameter ferrules. Peg head was 5/8" thick, they will accommodate some difference thinner or thicker. Elephant ear style, but cast knobs, not a flat plate stuck into a rod -- they look just like the ones on this page: http://www.rondomusic.com/spjash.html . They each require 1 little screw on the back ...

It's my basic understanding that ivory ferrules deflect more, but create more action. Is this correct? Some people have told me that ivory ferrules should not deflect more. I spoke to different cuemakers that said they could either make a shorter 3/4in ferrule or leave it upcapped to minimize deflection. What do you guys think?

Gentlemen, I have a few sets of #12 and #13 Duronze ferrules for sale. These are 1 Female, 2 Male sets. The ferrules are all machined by hand by yours truly. These ferrules are machined to extremely tight tolerances, especially the slide of the female ferrule. The ferrules are not serrated, as I'm not set up for cutting serrations at this time. These beautiful ferrules are lighter weight than...

I picked up an old rod today from the local flea market and Im looking at restoring it for a bit of fun and practice. The ferrules are Ok but need good clean. They appear to have some discoloration (greenish colour), assume being exposed to saltwater. whats a good cleaning agent to use to remove the green stuff. I was initially thinking of using fine grit paper but I didnt was to ruin the ...

I've waited a long time to get thes in. These came from an indian reservation in alaska. My buddy brought me a couple to try after using one i had to get some in stock. The play is pehnomenal, a little stiffer and crisper than ivory. You can drill straight through or cap it. Machining is excellent, they are very very strong. You can blend and plish with ease. I've priced them by looks only ...

I really have two questions. First on lighter weight rods, say six weight or less, do you generally wrap the ferrules for the given amount of blank inserted into the female end or do you make a shorter wrap? How short? What happens when the guide encroaches into the ferrule area? Do you use single foot guides on six weight and less? On rods say seven weight and larger, do you always cover ...

I recently acquired a Fenwick-Grizzly 7'0"-5wt phenolic resin blank. My first step will be to remove the aluminum ferrules and repace them with a set of nickel silver ones. Then the blank will be cleaned and re-finished with an UV varnish. From there... I have a lot to think over. The rod's companion streamside will be a Wright & McGill Victory 7030 (7'0"-4wt), with that said... here's some of my...

I received this rod a dozen years ago . It was suffering from extreme varnish meltdown. I restored it using the original guides , new silk and new varnish. I originally thought Edwards because of the bakelite cork check , angular snake guides and high quality machine welted ferrules. The swelled butt later made me think Heddon , either way it's a high quality 7' Trout rod. 7' 2/2 #4 , medium ...
