If the silver collar around the ferrule is replaced can this change the value of the bow? (assuming the original has no special markings/engravings etc) I see a hairline crack developing in mine... (a Bultitude from the 60s)
I really have two questions. First on lighter weight rods, say six weight or less, do you generally wrap the ferrules for the given amount of blank inserted into the female end or do you make a shorter wrap? How short? What happens when the guide encroaches into the ferrule area? Do you use single foot guides on six weight and less? On rods say seven weight and larger, do you always cover ...

I'd like a little insight into repairing a loose male ferrule on my bamboo. It appears (after fishing it a handful of times) that it is loose enough to pull off the end of the buttsection. It slowly started as a thin crack line in my ferrule disguise wraps and then the gap became larger as the ferrule pulled away from the ajoining threads. So it is time to fix this situation. Can I ...

I have a cheap sneaky pete cue that I decided to make into a break cue to replace my mcdermott I've been using. I want to cut down the ferrule to make a firmer hit. Is this something I can accomplish at home? The only tool I really don't have access to is a good lathe. I have a shaft spinning one I built but its really only good for reconditioning shafts and putting on tips. anything I ...

Hello, So, most of the times I buy threaded ferrules already... I have all the taps needed. This is what I do... - Chuck the ferrule in the lathe - Center (1, 2 and 3), drill with a 0.250 or 1/4" drill bit the ferrule. - Start tapping it with a 5/16x18 tap. The problem I have is that I get into half of ferrule being tapped and the ferrules starts skidding on the chuck. Does not...

I'm considering the purchase of what is touted to be a never-used Heddon #10 8 1/2' 2F...however, the butt/mid ferrule fit isn't 100% and they don't "pop" when seperated. Not sure exactly how loose the fit is as I haven't seen the rod....I have in the past been able to "squeeze" the female ferrule ever so slightly to tighten up the fit and buy some time. However, guessing ultimately I would need...

*** These shafts have been sold thanks *** Here are two older Schon shafts with what I thought was 5/16x14 piloted thread but these shafts won't fit onto other butts with the 5/16x14 pin . I thought the threads were just dirty so I started a thread on it asking for opinions ( link posted below ) Some opinions are that Schon used a different thread back then . Im not sure ...

Here is a nice old Browning, in very nice condition. Not "mint", but used very little, and in well-cared for, "good" to "excellent" condition. All components are original, including the o-ring on the sizematic ferrule. I recently restored the finish to the rod blank, by removing the old finish, and re-coated it with 2 thinned applications of "satin" spar varnish. The new finish is ...

Hi all, I'm looking for an R9 TP sleeve (0.335). Doesn't have to be new, but must work perfectly fine. Either the full kit (sleeve, screw, rubber washer, ferrule) or just the sleeve with ferrule is ok, because this will be for a backup shaft. Send me a PM if anybody has a spare one that they'd like to sell. Thanks!

Is it true that the slick trick standards and mags have the same ferrule? So I could try the mags, and if they did not fly well, could then just order some standard replacement blades and then try them.

Are southbend ferrules hollow? I have to do some work on a 290 and pulled off the female ferrule. It was jammed on over an inch 1/4 and the ferrule was hollow when i pulled it off. Is that normal? The rod looked like it had some spot repairs on it. Not sure if anything was done to it or not. Thanks Toby

As far as modern glass rods go, I've built multiple Riffle Glass(a.k.a. Kettle Creek) rods this summer.........each blank came with an instruction sheet that states "WARNING: Put a 1" wrap of thread at the end of the female tip section of the blank, to add additional strength to this area (for tip over butt ferrule blanks)-spigot ferrule blanks should have a 1" wrap of thread at the end of the ...
Mike, The longer ferrule wraps I have used have sometimes proved difficult to get a smooth finish on, thus the questions. I will keep in mind the 1.5 times rule. Thanks. PHG, The eight weight I built I used snakes, just hoping I will get into some larger fish with it Hoping the positive thinking will help me out! I was thinking the same thing as yourself about distinguishing the ...

Hi Cellomaestro, Can you post pictures? The silver ferrule can most often be resoldered with ease. On an English bow from the 1960's, the silver should still be thick enough that resoldering it should be quite possible. Done properly, this is something that probably cannot be seen after the repair, and would have little impact on the value on the bow. This is something that I would recommend ...
