Trained Monkeys could do this it's so easy. Perhaps the easiest way to convert a FAT or FAT32 disk to NTFS is to use the command-line Convert utility. The essential syntax is: convert d: /fs:ntfs In this example, d is the drive letter you want to convert. For information about optional parameters, type convert /? at the command prompt. The Convert utility can do its work ...

I came across this funny thing...I formatted my pendrive in Windows 7 in FAT32 format, everything went fine, and I was able to read and write file to the pendrive. Problem.... When I brought my pendrive to my friend's pc, he's running Windows XP, my pendrive was not readable, it asked me to format it. Anyone know what is going on? Thank you in advance......

I have a Iomega eGo 500GB external HDD and am trying to convert it to FAT32. I wasted time using a misc. online "how-to" and lost 6 hours of my time by doing so since it didn't work. I know i need a third party converting tool, but which one works with VISTA? I've heard of the HP one, Swissknife, and CompuApps but have only heard of people with Windows XP using those. A little help ...

Hello, Apologies if the title was confusing. Let me explain: I have a portable HDD that has two partitions: 1 Time Machine and 1 Fat32 (so my PS3 and Windows PC can read it). I no longer need the Fat32 partition and would like to take that space and put it back into one Time Machine partition. I've tried for a while in Disk Utility, to no avail. Am I doing something wrong?...

I have an external hard drive I need to format in FAT32 for my PS3, but my Win7 PC is refusing to do it. I can't do via Properties, I can't do it via DOS (It says "The volume is too big for FAT32"), and SwissKnife is not Win7/64-bit friendly at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you all in advance.

Hello everybody, I have a question that I've been struggling with since I got my external hard drive. I have a 1Tb hard drive that I split into use for my PC and my PS3. As such I formatted 2 partitions... One into the NTFS system Windows Vista uses and one into the FAT32 system recognized by the PS3. I then had a hard time recognizing the drive on my PS3 until I realized that the name ...

Hello, I wonder if someone can help me. I tried reading all posts before asking this. I am trying to set up my NSLU2 (v2.3 R63) so that I can easily plug my USB drives under a Windows 7 64 bits system and recover files if I want it (*). I also want to have the Backup feature working between Disk1 and Disk2!! So I said to myself, why not take advantage of NSLU2 support of FAT32? I ...

A computer idiot writes: .... I've borrowed a colleagues 16Gb flash drive to help me upgrade my PS3 hard drive. He tells me to delete anything that's on it, and I do. It's working fine. I am aware the PS3 will only recognise FAT32, so I download SwissKnife (following net advice re: formatting in FAT32). I run SwissKnife and (without reading about how to use the program) click the...

I use external drives between my mac and my many ubuntu systems. I didn't use FAT32 because of the 4 GB file size limit. The last driver that allowed OSX to read and write to Linux file systems was EXT2FS. It allowed mounting of Ext2 file systems, the project apparently has been abandoned since 2006. Since Ubuntu now comes with Ext4 it would be great to have an Ext4 driver for OSX, to use between...

Hi all, I have an external USB harddrive which I share between my Linux Slackware 12.2 and Windows XP machines. The USB partitions are all FAT32. All worked well during the first year of use but for the past few months the USB HD gets frequently mounted in USB 1 mode instead of USB 2. I have no idea why this happens. I googled for it and it turns out I'm not the only one with ...
