Is there a chart someplace describing the changes in minimum focusing differences and DOF when plugging these tubes, (12, 20, 36mm) onto a 300 mm 2.8 canon lens?

Anybody lens-geek familar with the Leica Adapter for the Leica 60mm 2.8 Macro? Apparently you can get a Leica Macro Adapter 14256 (or 14198 ) to get a ratio of 1:1. I have Kenko extension tubes, so the questin is would these tubes have the same effect as the Leica 14256/14198 adapters? If so, I would be saving myself some money using Kenko's. Currently using on a 5D MKII.

I've been doing a lot of research on photography forums and other how-to resources. I feel like I've learned a ton over the past couple of weeks. With that in mind, I have also started to expand on my lens collection a little. I just picked up a Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6. My next step is to get the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS from B&H Photo. It's on sale until 1/16/10 yay. Anyway, I like doing ...

On the Kenko web page the product description for the current models of the Kenko extension tubes for Nikon have the suffix 'DG'. Does anyone know what that implies versus the non 'DG' with autofocus? TIA

Just wondering if anyone ever uses extension tubes on Canon's white "L" series prime telephoto lenses (300 f/2.8, 400 f/2.8, 500 f/4, 600 f/4) to achieve closer focus? If so how were the results. I'd think you'd get some pretty interesting images, esp some nice bokeh.

Can someone help me out in choosing extension tubes? This seems like a better alternative (financially speaking) to see how much I like macro photography. What am I looking for and do I want a set? Will they work with all of my lenses?

I need to grab another fast prime (I foolishly sell mine everytime I seem to get one) and want something that will work as a macro lens if I use extension tubes as well. I have never done macro but would like to give it a whirl without buying specialty lenses until I decide if I like it. The prime would be used for portraits and some indoor sports as well. I'd mainly use it on my 1dmkII. FWIW...

Macro photography is interesting where everything seems to be magnified and the viewer gets into this surreal environment that weÂ’ve never seen before even though the subject is mundane and common. The ability to see the details, colors, shapes, and textures opens up a photographerÂ’s creative vision beyond what the eyes can see. In order to capture subjects with such magnification, ...

Great photos everyone. Thanks for posting! Love how the hummingbird stands out from the "soft" bokeh background in that pic, Ian. Almost gives it a 3-D appearance.

My advise is to don't spend to much money on air there is no glass in extension tubes!!! I have a set of Soligor ETs 12, 20 and 36mm. They work just fine and are cheap + a hell lot cheaper then a macro lens

I understand one can get a considerable increase in magnification also with a relatively short tube as it allows very close focus; however this puts the lens in a position in was not designed for any may cause side effects. I have witnessed pretty ...

QUOTE (shamoo @ Jan 3 2010, 05:07 PM) Too bad the 24-70 f/2.8 is crazy expensive. Price isn't an issue really, but I just feel guilty spending so much in one shot. Its that price for a reason, purchase and use one and you will than understand

Punching "extension tube focus distance" into Google yields this thread - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=19 350 I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere.
