Longtime Dopers will remember, I trust fondly, teemings , the zine adjunct to the SDMB created and run by former mod Eutychus . (You can see archived issues here .) He finally had to give it up, due to having, yanno, a life. Luckily, I have no such obstacles, so, egged on by my co-conspirator Gfactor, Ive gotten it into my head to resurrect teemings . What it will be: a zine ...

quote: OOS, as cog41 pointed out, the atmosphere, symbols, and settings of the lodge give a quasi-religious appearance that makes some Christians assume that it is a religion in and of itself. Not all Christians share this view, of course. Cog41, even if the atmosphere is different, the use of a generic term for God is still for the same purpose, be it in an oath of office or ...

Eutychus, Mr. Fribbles, You are right, there was no temple. There were priests. They had 48 cities of refuge set aside for the Levites from Joshua's day. If anyone is interested there is a good commentary by John Paine who lived in the 1700's.

quote: ORIGINAL: Eutychus I'm not overly concerned if my friend disagrees with me on doctrinal issues that are not central to the faith. If I share my understanding and he chooses not to accept it, then it's not crucial to our friendship that I prove my case. There are brothers & sisters in Christ that I disagree with on this site on a regular basis but I wouldn't have a problem ...

>Eutychus It would seem to me the more dangerous ground to walk would be assuming that God gives us knowledge on how to use things. Like... Marijuana and opium to drugs, grain into booze, metal ore into sword and bullet, or rope into noose. To shift to God the responsibility of what we choose to use and how we choose to use it is to shift blame away from ourselves. That whole line of ...

Please. I never ridiculed you, and I sincerely apologize for giving that impression. Forgive me. I only asked you to present your case for making such a statement. That is all. You are right in that this is not the thread to be discussing such a topic. But to answer your question: No, I don't base my view on a single verse, nor do I only use the New Testament. What I believe is based on my ...

quote: ORIGINAL: Eutychus I've seen a couple of posts in recent weeks that convey the same idea: Were it not for the Hanukkah miracle, then the story in Bethlehem would not have happened. Do you think that God's plan of redemption, in place before the foundation of the world, could have evaporated had the Maccabees not entered Jerusalem in triumph and ritually cleansed the...

quote: ORIGINAL: Eutychus quote: ORIGINAL: cposey Yeah I don't know, i thought it was worth a try. I started a thread in this folder in late September entitled, "What is RIGHT with some churches these days?" in contrast to all the negative threads about churches. It received 41 responses before it died for lack of any more posts. It's almost as if believers in general or...
