It has been in the family continuously and the story was that the clockmaker in Scotland was a family member.  I inherited it about 5 years ago and had difficulty getting it to run after shipment and had it cleaned, oiled, and inspected and ran fine until I ...

Oh goofy...the thread title shouldn\'t have an apostrophe! Anyway... I\'m new to this and learning quickly the rudiments of mechanical watch movements...so I have a rookie question. I think I understand the point of jewels, that they\'re harder and wear much more slowly. So I gather this is the reason for jewel pallets on a pallet fork. By the same logic then isn\'t there a necessity for jewels ...

Here is a video I took this morning of my chronometer watches. One is an English spring detent escapement about 1860 and the other is an unsigned, possibly Swiss pivoted detent escapement. When I eventualy get round to servicing this watch there will hopefully be some identifying marks under the dial....if anybody has an idea of probable maker or date then please let me know as I haven\'t a ...

Edward Ueberall, owner of The Escapement, Vintage Watch Restoration, returned Pop\'s watch this past week as he had promised. The watch, an 1874 Elgin H.H. Taylor belonged to my deceased grandfather and was his first RR watch when he went to work for the Virginian RR in 1898 at age 14. Pop had two other Elgin pocket watches ( 1886 & 1923 ) as years passed. This watch came into my possession in ...

I saw this on TV last night and found it on Youtube for you guys to see. It\'s a video of the team at Blancpain making a tourbillon watch. The first minute or two isn\'t shown where they polish and assemble the escapement, but you really get a feel for the intricate craftsmanship and heritage involved in making these watches.
