Watching last nights primetime programme ,it struck me that our politicians are quite happy to see our unemployed leave. I remember in the 80s when the politicians of the day were openly encouraging emigration...but at least there were jobs in the U.K. then and also in the U.S. even without work visas. In fairness Billy Kelleher said all the right things...I guess the questions are known ...

Do you think we should make videos encouraging people to immigrate to BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China). They are considered "developing nations", they wont have to pay "climate debt" and have there emissions rate cut by 40% over the next 20 years thus destroying there economies. We can basically try to sell them on the idea that these are the new "golden countries" as a way to try...

Free education and healthcare are secondary problems associated with illegal immigration. Everyone already knows how the drug trade lures illegal immigrants, but not as many people are pointing out how the inflation of the housing bubble was concurrent with rising levels of illegal immigration. Easy credit (which means easy housing even for immigrants) and massive demand for cheap ...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8380367.stm Interesting the headline points out the increasing number of immigrants, and not the increasing number of emigrants... ETA: This article is from 19 Nov. There was one last night on the BBC news site, however I am struggling to find now.

Does anyone have access to the passenger lists for New York? Sometime between 1871 and 1877 Adelaide THURLAND (bc1820) emigrated to New York with her daughter Alice (bc1862). The older Adelaide is found on the 1880 US census in Brooklyn with her son-in-law Edwin LAWRENCE bc1850, dau Alice and grandson Edwin (aged 3 born in Brooklyn). Edwin senior is a widower and I suspect his late wife was...

Thanks for looking Deborah. This is not actually my family, so I will pass on what you have found to the person concerned and he will have to do a bit more digging on his own. The only one in his direct line is Adelaide b1820 (who presumably died in the US), so he is just trying to tie up a few loose ends.

Hi, Yes we used The Emigration Group, they were brilliant from start to finish, they were always on the end of the phone to answer our queries and made the whole process alot easier, yes it is cheaper to do it yourself, but if you haven't got the time and want to know youv'e done everything right then I would use an agent,

I'm in emigrating in a few months. Found this thread trying to get some information and help. I think it's a great idea and also would be great for boardsies to reminisce about Ireland, arrange meetups and give help for those moving or looking to move abroad.
