I am going to start a Roth IRA and am a little confused between mutual funds and ETFs. I plan on buying and holding for the long term; which one would be cheaper? My preference is for something aggressive and global/international, or maybe a global index. Apparently, ETFs don't attracty stamp duty, index funds do - what are the implications of this WITHIN an ISA or pension wrapper? Also, ETFs implicitly have all the dividend simply included in the price of the ETF - does this mean that the dividend avoids more standard dividend income tax payable within an ISA or pension on an index fund?

I was wondering what the ETF is holding to create a 1x or 2x inverse effect? Also, I read in a thread below that they have time decay - that suggests to me they're holding options. Would it make sense to buy puts on an ETF that I think is going down - would the inherent ETF time decay help the value of my put? Or is that baked in, like most things are?

Maybe someone answered this before, but I've always read the problem owning ETFs that are short positions of sectors or whatever, but what's wrong with shorting these EFTS? Is it possible or you can't short a short ETF. Or any other consequence.
