I have hired someone to completely redo the kitchen in my flat. He started a week ago, and so far he has only done preparation work - the kitchen has been completely gutted. He describes himself on his quote as "Electrical Contractor NIC EIC". The only problem is that, ahem, he isn't on the NIC EIC register. He apparently was until a year ago, but they cannot tell me why he is not ...

There have been many comments made along the lines of "Poor people do not pay taxes because even if they do, they get it all back." The EIC is given as an example. I decided to look at my 2008 tax booklet (1040A) and my tax form from last year to see how accurate this is. Our household income was an amount between 20K and 30K, and we qualified for the EIC. To qualify for the EIC with one...

In our visitation court order it is said that my son's father gets to claim him every other tax year. How does this work regarding the EIC? The child lives with me for more than half the year and his father makes too much to take the credit anyway. So I am still entitled to this credit, correct? When filling out the tax papers how will this work since you have to list the child as a dependant? We...

For those who might not have noticed, I've assembled a staff of writers who have been doing some great things here at eiC. Of course, you need to visit that homepage of ours to see them in action. Tim is providing all the news, each and every day and he's all over it. Jessica has been doing some great roundup reviews including "Music fan apps, who does them well" and today's article " ...

My DD was recommended for EIC speech therapy by the hospital since our insurance wouldn't cover it. So i finally get ahold of the EIC after 2 months of calling every day, and we get denied. Why?? Because they're full for the year!!! Ok, so when it starts over next year, can we get speech therapy for her? Nope, because she'll be 3 yo then. WTF??? Even though she was referred when she was 2???? ...

Hey All, I know I'm not an avid poster, but I'm giving back to the EIC community by giving away some Google Wave invites if anyone wants one. They are just nominations (not direct access), but hey, they are free. PM if you want one. I have 8. Jay

The EMC Strategy for Network Rail NR/L1/SIG/300400 states that earthing and bonding should be to Network Rails best practice in the intended environment. What do NR consider best practice? MESH bonding is stated as best practice in BS EIC 61000-5-2 as is also recommended by Ofcom and Keith Armstrong has written a number of articles addressing the issue. In the rail environment STAR ...

One more time since Concussion truly has bitten the dust. I thought it'd make a comeback after a couple of the photographers bought it when the EIC/Publisher decided he wanted to call it quits. But, alas, it just didn't happen. So, which do you think is the best? Looking for something that's just laid back, fun, and easy to pick up and read for two minutes or an hour.
