Does anyone know much about hip dysplasia? My LO goes for 2nd ultrasound to check the "findings" from the first and I didn't know what to expect. Is it that a baby has it b/c they are breech or breech b/c they have it? What are some other risk factors? What are the treatments and how effective are they? What treatments can be done at home and what limitations do the LOs have with the ...

Buddy is a little over 1year and 8 weeks old today. When I took him to get him fixed the vet. said that he had hip dysplasia. Well, never having a dog before, I never knew exactly what it was or how bad it could hurt my dog. Well, since I found out about this, I have seen him in alot of pain. He can barely walk up and down the stairs to the basement anymore, and sometimes it hurts him so bad...

Hi Everyone~ my daughter is 4 months old and has hip dysplasia. A rigid brace and pavlik harness have both not worked, we are moving on to casting when she is 6 months. So I am trying to learn as much as I can between now and then. Has anyone gone through 3 months with their little one in a hip spica cast? Any advice? How long did it take for them to get used to it? What special things do we ...

I am going to give a short (free) webinar on a canine chiropractic technique that prevents hip dysplasia. I will show you how to do it. Up to 25 people can be invited. I'll be doing this three times this week. Just send me an email at phdefotis@gmail.com to be invited. Thank you, Daniel Kamen, D.C. author of The Well Adjusted Dog

My daughter was born 12/9. She was diagnosed on 12/10 with hip dysplasia. She is in a Pavlik harness for six weeks. The success rate with the harness is 95% when the condition is discovered in newborns. I had never heard of this condition before. I just ask that you have your pediatrician check for this when they have their first appointment. A lot of pediatricians don't check for this and then ...

During Apollo's last vet visit, the vet offered to give us Rimadyl for pain/inflammation relief for his elbow dysplasia. I declined and was given Metacam instead (it had been recommended as a better alternative on a Rottie forum). Tonight Apollo seems to be in some pain (I think he overdid it in the snow ), and I'm sitting here with the Metacam box freaking out about giving it to him....

Hi to all and Merry Christmas!! Its been a year since I began all of my testing leading up to my ablation, D+C and LEEP biopsy. An abnormality was discovered last December in a routine pap test. The tests came back as mild cervical dysplasia. After discussing the options with the doctor I agreed to have the ablation done. I am very happy I did. I have had no problems to speak of. I have had one ...

Buddy-Wallace - That sounds like a good plan! Check out the IMOM website it has some really good info on how to get some financial help. Like Chandler said after care can be as important as the surgery itself so keep that in mind too (especially the money part). It may be a good idea to start finding a local Physical Therapist now. PT can help as much before surgery as after and may be able ...

Thanks for all of the input guys. I am researching it the best i can. The thing for me is that even though my dog is a hunter/house pet i cant see dropping 7 grand on surgeries being a college student. The breeder gave me the option of keeping the dog and getting another puppy or getting my money back and keeping the dog. I totally understand the breeding of two good dogs can result in a pup ...
