Dual layer - Topic profile

I have a Dell DVD+-RW GSA-H73N drive, and K3B recognizes it as dual-layer with double-layer support. However, anytime I put a DVD+R DL disc in the drive, I get a message from dmesg saying "I can't find any tracks on this disc!" and I/O errors if I attempt to write to the disc. Any suggestions? I'm looking to upgrade my laptop's current non-Lightscribe dual-layer DVD burner (came with my ACER Aspire 5570Z), which is pretty temperamental; some perfectly good CDs it just won't read, and I've been having other assorted problems with it as well. Thanks!

I normally back up to DVD but I hit some large video files which were too big to fit on a DVD. I finally went out and bought some dual layer DVDs - they hold 8 gig on a single DVD. Hurrah! I can finally back up those large videos and get them off my system. Does anybody else hit issues with backing up files that are larger than a DVD can hold?

I haven't asked this question in awhile and was wondering if people's opinions have changed. What is the best way to get 1:1 backups of your movies using dual layer? My Method: AnyDVD - running to remove copyrights IMGBurn - in read mode IMGBurn - in write mode using mds file.

Hi I have NEC ND-3500 16x Dual-layer, black , since last week my DVD burner does not recognize any DVD, but can read and write the cd’s. Verbatim is a reputable brand. What really matters is the dye used on the discs. Each disc is coded with this information. The burner reads the code and looks in a table in the firmware for the details for optimum burning. John

Yes, I made sure that was correct. I have ordered a Lite-On DVD that is supposed to be here Thursday or Friday. I'm not sure if that will fix it. It is a better player than the one I have. I am highly confused at this point. Thanks for responding.

What error are you getting? What steps are you using to do this? DVD copying is not nearly the same thing as copying a CD. Nevermind the likely legal issue.
