I don't understand all the concerns about the " dry clutch " used by BMW.All cars, pickups, tractors, over the road tractors and other machinery with standard shift transmissions use a dry clutch and they are very dependable and last a long time.Am I missing something here?

Hi (again), What would you rate which is the choise for gearbox oil to use with dry clutch? Engine is TM K9C, 125cc two stroke racing engine for karting. Manufacturer recommends just regular ATF oil for gearbox. I don't know how good that can be, it just seems quite low-end solution. Other ones are recommending "long life" oil used in TDI engines. Using oil for other purpose than it's designed ...

Remove all Advertisements Wonder if the power gain would be worth the effort to build a dry housing for it? I'm thinking it wouldn't lower the tranny oil temp that much since you don't normally fan it alot anyway. I know you couldn't get away with it on a 2 stroke, but you don't have to fan the clutch on a 450. I

Soo, I have heard of and I think(??) even seen pics of a dry clutch conversion that someone did. Does anyone know anything else about this? we're building a bike right now and the right side covers/clutch is disassembled for work, it looks like it could maybe be done, but with a fair amount of machining. Any knowledge on this?? Thanks

I've been doing some reading lately and dry vs wet came up again. The best explanation I've been given from this site has been: "Wet sits in oil/liquid and dry doesn't sit in a medium". I'm now curious to know more. This is what I've gathered in point form: -Wet clutch you run risk of messing it up if you don't use proper lubricant/oil suggested by manufacturer -Wet clutches don't wear ...

Yup... Let's do something for our dry clutch bikes in 2010. I plan to get mine on the road in the Spring now that I have all the parts to make it move. I still need to replace all the bearings, fork seals, rebuild the rear shock and put on the new tires but that'll just take a little time. Merry Christmas guys
