Hi all, I recently bought a used 1996 Nissan Altima GXE and am having a couple of issues to fix. I went to a couple of mechanics and they say there are 2 things to be worked on: 1) Rear Brakes Clean and Adjust: I have been informed that my rear brakes are the drum brakes and they need to be cleaned and adjusted because of huge dirt stuck onto my brakes. I could not find answers what ...

anyone know of a good method to get the drum off of the assembly? i wailed away on it with a 2lb hammer, and it didnt budge. hit the center section with a torch... nothing. tried threading a bolt through one of the threaded removal holes, snapped the bolt off. tried to back the shoes off via the rear access port. not sure if that worked or not, but the assembly turned freely, so i dont ...

I read in a post somewhere on here a while back that the rear drum brakes from a Type 4 are the same as the rear drum brakes on a 66-73 Type 3. I have a rail buggy that I really want to upgrade to the type 3 brakes but, so far have had no luck locating any Type 3 rear brake stuff. I know where there is a Type 4... A 1973 4dr sedan that may end up as my brake donor. If... The Type 4 setup will ...

Alright, so what I thought was the driver's side hub making a large clunk after rolling forward for a bit is actually the rear drum brake on the driver's side. I roll forward and I hear a large clunk and then there is a noticeable resistance. If I put it in reverse the resistance is gone. I am able to take drum off with ease, and both shoes have plenty of material on them. That goes...

I've always liked the way air scoops look on drilled backing plates... I figured I'd try to make my own, instead of buying some nice spendy ones. I spotted these stainless butter dishes at Target, and immediately thought it was something I could work with... Here's what I did with a $10 butter dish and a few hours of labor... Just what I thought... this will fit great... These are ...

I recently purchased a 96 camaro V6. as u know it comes with rear drums. CAN anyone help me figure out how can I swap it to rear disk. Any information will be greatly appreciated. My Formula Firebird has rear slotted rotors and for you race fans rims with calipers and rotors look great but rims with drums, not so great. Like I said any information will be greatly appreciated and Thanks....

The parking brake on my '04 Tundra is no longer holding. Is it possible to adjust the brake shoes at the rear wheels to fix this problem? Also, will this tighten the parking brake pedal (currently has a lot of travel)?

I am going to share my rear brake experiance with my '94. I have have the truck since it was new and never had a rear brake problem until recently. I put new brake shoes and drums on from autozone. After a few months I started having trouble with the brakes note fully releasing when I released the emergency brake cable. I took the drums off to find that the shoes were note "floating" on the ...

vicks - it depends on when they squeek. If they are squeeking when you are driving and it goes away when you apply the brak then it is a wear indicator. These indicators sqeek when you are not using the brakes exactly for this reason. So when you hear it you go have it looked at. Generally speaking if it is squeeking when you drive and goes away when you brake you should at least throw new pads...

got them! the drivers side put up a hell of a fight. liberal use of pb-blaster around the hub and more wailing away on the drum got it to come loose. the pass side wasnt as bad, but i still had to smack it pretty good.

This past Saturday morning, I took the time to just jack up one of my rear wheels, took the rubber plug that leads to the star adjuster, and using a bicycle-tire-spoon, kept spinning the adjuster until I could feel a slight drag on the wheel. I did make sure to chock the front tires and put the truck in Neutral. I did both wheels and when I pushed on the Emergency-Brake, it was noticeably ...
