Hello, I have just had my first appointment with midwofe and she explained about Downs Syndrome testing...she advised that i can have a blood test on nhs that checks the risk... but also told about a private test that is more accurate and that involves a scan as well as blood and is taken a little earlier on in pregnancy...it costs £200 I do have a distant relative who has downs ...

Of course everyone is entitled to all tests available and their opinions but if a person is able to cope with a typical baby why wouldn't they be able to cope with a baby with down's syndrome. Last year, I tested positive to be high risk for downs. After having more tests, everything came back fine and the baby did not have down syndrome. These tests are not conclusive tests in any way, they are screeners. There are lots of false positives out there and there are so many things they factor in to give you the numbers.
