Hello all I know that you're not supposed to take an image of a DC but what if it's the only DC in the domain with no replication partner? I have a test environment using VMWare where the DC runs as a guest. I'd like to make a VM snapshot of it so I can revert back after testing things. Would this cause AD problems?

I seem to spend way too much time removing and re-adding user machines to the domain because the user starts getting the "Domain Controller Not Found" error message at login. Is there a quicker way to do this? Maybe a utility that will 'refresh' the AD configuration instead of having to remove it, go back to a workgroup, reboot, go back to AD configuration, etc.... The latter always ...

Hi. Not just any DC, but the first DC installed in a new domain (as long as the FSMO's haven't been moved) will also be the RID Master. On W2K08 there will certainly be an event created for that type of event.

Yeah that would be my suggestion - Ideally a DC should just be a DC and be used for nothing else, of course budget constraints dont always make that possible but if you do have other servers available then I would say use those instead :) Chris
