Any idea what would cause a new cap/plug wires and plugs to jump spark from the outside of the distributor cap on number 3, to like the rf shield, or the coil terminal? have an old rotor, but it's not that old, and it's been cleaned off "vw tune-up style" scraping the crud off the metal. Too much plug gap? a scratch on the cap terminal? fouled plug?

I have a fast question, besides changing the cap is there any other part (s) that should be replaced as long as I'm in there already. I've put on 42K since all of the parts were changed last. Reason for changing cap by the way the center pin has fallen out and I cant reconnect it, Thanks

Hi Chaps I posted early about a problem of the car warming up and then stopping after about 5 mins. I start it for a little while and remove the distributor cap to find moisture so I'll replace the cap and arm. However behind the Rotor Arm is a plastic plate with a little rubber seal around the edge. I think I should probably replace this bit also but does anyone now what it...

When removing the old disty cap, one of the scews broke. Got the cap off and drilled it out.I buy a new cap and install, the new screw seemed as if it had re-threaded the hole and would hold. It didn't..once the engine was cranked the cap was kncoked loose and I discovered the rotor had shattered. I buy new rotor and install. I solved the disty problem by running a machine screw through with a ...

I knew I shouldn't have tried to do the tune up before the 4 day holiday! Damn, broke the clip off! I need at least one distributor cap clip! If you have 2 I'll take the pair. This is from a Bosch distributor for 2.4 CIS. I think they are all the same from 2.0 to 3.0. Please respond to ahdoman@socal.rr.com with price & PP address.

Evening, This morning I had problems starting my car and I put it down to the damp, I had a spare distributor cap in my flat so I thought I would quickly change the over. As I was in a rush to be on time for work I pulled off all the leads and then suddenly realised that I needed to remember which lead when onto which socket. Being half asleep I couldnt remember which one was...

Perhaps the jammed rotor was strong enough to cause a loose t-belt to jump a tooth. I've seen t-belts jump time. The EA82 belts are especially prone if the tensioner isn't tight enough - being mechanically tensioned and thin I could easily see that happening. Though I would think it would break the distributor first. But I don't know - that's my best guess. GD

Well it is strange because the the car is kept in a warm garage and wasn't driven in the rain for a least 4 months and still had the problem. I am unsure it is moisture though. It looks like droplets of moisture / condensation but they don't evaporate. When wiped away they feel more like grease but totally colourless. This would explain why the car can be left for months and yet the problem ...
