I have an external hard drive containing wmv files. Can I use the disk utility on my Macbook to duplicate the (windows formatted) drive? I want to give the copy (destination) to someone else to view on a pc computer.

I have an external hard drive with several partitions. Two of these partitions are a Linux partition and Linux Swap partition. I have (had) the disk setup to boot into linux on my PC. The other partition was a large NTFS that I wanted to reformat into FAT32 so that I could write to it from my mac. I used the erase volume command in Disk Utility to create the FAT32 file system, ...

Using DVDs and CDs with your iMac G5

I want to scratch the contents of a CD-RW or DVD-RW using tht hard disk utility. But this is impossible, the software indicates 'read only'. Even for a new CD the utility says 'read only'. But in the finder the information for the CD is 'read and write'. What can be the reason? A specific parameter that I by accident set? Or a hardware problem?...

The other day while I was looking around my Windows XP, I accidentally deleted the Mac partition from Window's Disk Management under Computer Management. I couldn't undo the action so I hurried to the Mac version, which was fine. Then I try to restart in Windows, which couldn't work, not even in Safe Mode. I thought about deleting it through Boot Camp, which I used and spent 30 ...

My machine became "slow" (ex.pc users) so I desired to reboot, I closed and shut down then re-started. I then saw a folder with a question mark centre screen. Upon discussion with a fellow Mac user I reboot again, this time with Disk 1 in from original package. This brought up language open (selected english) and then went to disk utilities - I did not continue to do any install etc. ...

I recently purchased a Western Digital 1 Terabyte "My Book" and started having problems dumping video onto it from Final Cut. On the FCP forum somebody pointed out that I need to make sure my drive was formatted for the Mac (it wasn't). I didn't have much data on the drive, so I just dumped it elsewhere and tried to reformat the drive to Max OS Extended (Jounaled). I think I've ...

Hardware & Peripherals

I have an external hd that I removed from a user's Mac workstation (it was fully functional) and I want to attach it to the OSX server. However, after attaching it to the server, I cannot see it in Disk Utility. It does show up under System Profiler under the connection type. I have tried USB and Firewire; I have rebooted the HD and the server. Any thoughts?
