computer pros- Disk drive? permalink My laptops disk drive will not open. When you click the button the lights still turn on like it will open so the drive isn't completley broke. I have even tried the manual way by pushing a bobby pin through the small hole to open it, and that doesnt work as well? Any other ideas?

Following the XFS faq, I am trying to ensure that the Disk Caches on the individual drives in my Raid Arrays are disabled. I have a ServeRaid 10M controller. In the Storage Manager GUI there is a logical volume option for Disk Cache enabled or Disabled, but it is not clear to me whether that disables the read and write cache settings for the controller, or whether it disables the ...

Stripped one of the screw heads (sigh) when I went to replace the disk drive in my early 09 MBP. The screws are 'captive' so am assuming I will have to replace the bracket when I finally manage to get that screw out. Anyone know how much those brackets cost? Can't upgrade my hard drive until this is resolved... Thanks in advance, Tom B....

reply to koitsu said by koitsu : EDIT: I see you've gone back and edited your previous posts to include screen shots in Windows. Your slow I/O speed may be a direct result of you not having the proper ATA/IDE controller driver installed. The website I housed the screenshots seems to do maintenance in the mornings. The shots were there with the original post and when their ...

Re: computer pros- Disk drive? permalink If you can't get it to pop open using that small hole either: The object you're using is too thick and you're not triggering the release catch or A disc popped off the spindle and is blocking the tray If it's the second option...that really sucks, but either way there's no reason for that release catch to not...

Well, don't use WD externals, but don't judge how their internals do from that. And how drives are handled and shipped has a lot to do, as well as consumer, professional, enterprise. So tell that to my 2 dozen plus WD drives that I can't kill; Caviar, Green, Black and VelociRaptors (and some older Raptors)....

Your are right - the motherboard was replaced yesterday and my USB lights still flash continuously after shutdown or sleep and I can't eject the drive via the "Safely remove" pop up. It says it is in use, so I'm leaving my computer on and just turning off the monitor at night. Will contact Dell again to let them know the problem was not fixed by replacing the motherboard. I have double ...

HnS takes control by pretending to be Vista/W7 Bootmgr. If you're using some other boot manager, then it's no use at all. You'll either need to abandon the other boot manager, or use its facilities to hide W7 (if it has any)
Check the physical connection of your Lite-On disk drive . Might be that the disk drive is not properly plugged. Or there is a possibility of some driver which are missing. Go to the Device Manager to locate the disk drive to update the drivers . If it is not being detected then too, contact the vendor from whom you had purchased the Lite-On disk drive.
