Hi I do a bit of troubleshooting work in the marine industry and seem to be coming up against one particular problem over and over - electronic diesel engine controllers by Wartsila (WECS series) on medium/large (say 500kW to 2MW) reciprocating diesel engines for generators. There are edge coneector cards, small potentiometers and relays in these things and apart from premature failure, there...

What's your advice on gasoline vs. diesel for small-engine tools, such as a BCS walk-behind tractor? Do the tools run a lot longer on diesel fuel, and do diesel engines make a lot more noise? Any trouble starting a diesel engine to run a snowblower in the cold? Did you get an electric starter?

I'm curious to know what diesel engines work well in the early bronco. I have heard about the cummins 4bt but are there any others that might fit a little better. If I remember right ford offered a diesel in the 1986 bronco 2's ,outside of california. I don't know if they ever sold any though. I've had a 75 I was going to go through for my daughters first vehicle sitting at my inlaws for about 10...

lite sweet crude oil for diesel engines, the injectors would seize up,and the fuel filter is not that porous. put some 10w-30 in your tank in my experience with diesel engines call the tow truck you are not going anywhere. then you have to dump the tank and prime the fuel back to the injectors. that is why I have concerns about biodiesel clotting. FYI my fuel filter $60.00,my air filter $125.00. ...

Why does diesel slow on hills or inclines on the highway as compared to the the gas engine? I am referring to the characteristics of a straight diesel instead of a turbo diesel. Could it be the transmission and related gearing? Thanks.

I was reading a magazine the other day and I saw where this man had taken a small 3 cylinder engine out of a Kubota medium size Yard Tractor 33HP and put it in his 94 Yj. It is an everyday driver and the article said he was getting 13 MPG and no HP with the 2.5 and now he's getting nearly 30 and has much more HP and Tourque. Said he gave 350.00 at a Lawn mower Junk Yard for the motoe and it ...

This is all well and good for newer diesel engines, but for two strokes you need to follow the Detroit Diesel Guidlines and make sure it's approved for use in two stroke diesel engines. One good product I use is made by Lucas, an oil additive for older diesel engines. Not every diesel engine has the same makeup and design. What may be good for two strokes does not mean you can use it in a ...

( If you have any concern at all I'd certainly move the stuff off the vibrating structure.  Edge connector boards are rapidly compromised by vibration. You could also leave them on the system but re-mount the controls onto a damping system. , )

Diesel does have it's advantages in certain applications. Properly maintained, it will outlast the machine it is mounted on. It also develops tremendous torque and has very low fuel consumption. The downsides for lawn and garden equipment are weight, cost and noise. BCS is already expensive enough without the added cost of a diesel and would be an absolute brute to handle. I doubt if many would...
