Just installed Windows 7 and don't get an IP address from my dhcp server or so it seems. Network Diagnostics says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. 2 people need an answer I do too

my diagnostics plug and power wire connected to it are FRIED! it has melted all the way back to the loom. after spending hours figuring it all out this morning it seems everything on my dash is still ok.. all i need to know is can i cut the diagnostics plug out and safely tape the wires up so they dont short out.. in other words is the plug a necessity for the car to run?

I have been searching for a way to get my Snipping tool back in my vistax64 system. It started with the common errors saying there is a problem and to restart and so on.
