Debian Etch doesn't recognize USBFDD

I've been using Debian Etch on HP ProLiant ML115 G5 server whose USB controller is OHCI. The Debian Etch recognizes USB-CD/DVD and USB-HDD and they are mounted automatically. However, hte Debain Etch doesn't recognize USB-FDD and it is not mounted automatically. How can I solve this problem?

I have connected a Huawei E1612 and I am not sure if it can work with Debian Etch (I could configure the "old" modem Huawei E172 in Debian Etch, but not the modem E1612). After executing the command "lsusb" I have seen the following entry, related to the E1612 modem: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 12d1:1446 However, in "/dev" I could not see any entry like "ttyUSB0", ... Help!! I'm a debian server admin who is preparing to upgrade from etch to Lenny and was told I should upgrade from Etch from last August to the final release of Etch from May '09 first.
