I am getting some work done on my tranny (1990 MB 300E) - and the place said they use DEXRON 6. They said it replaced Dexron III. It is backwards compatible. It is partially synthetic, and supposed to be better. Anyone using it? I think it should be fine, as Dexron III is nolonger licensed. I know MB still uses Dexron III at the dealership, but I think they were using Dexron II before...

I called Mr. Lube and it appears that they fill all Honda Civics of this age with regular Dexron III ATF. Service manual says to use ONLY Honda ATF (Z-1). Is this nonsense in the manual? How could such a big chain like Mr. Lube risk it if it was dangerous.

The Supertech Dexron VI bottle says it is recommended for Toyota WS applications. Anyone use it in a Prius CVT? I am out of the warranty period for the car, any reason not to try it? I don't really like how bad WS typically looks on the UOA's, I think Dexron VI might hold up better.

top off the auto transmission with Dexron III without any ill effects? I want to service the transmission soon. The tranny fluid is clean, just about a half quart low, so this will buy me a little time before servicing. What is everyones recommendation on servicing the tranny? Thanks in advance. Jet Wrench

Hi all, I'm renewing the hoses of my '90 RRC powersteering and to fill her up I have some leftovers of Dexron II and Dexron III. Which one is recommended, can I mix them or does it has to be 'single malt' ? Greetz, Tony.

I flushed my LeSabre's transmission with Dexron-VI today to help with a few shifting issues and to get a lower-viscosity and tightly-regulated, GM-licensed fluid in there instead of the mystery oil in plain Dex/Merc ATF. I have to say, I like it so far! It's shifting better, and more crisply! Plus, my glides seem to be a hair longer. Maybe because it's lower-viscosity than the fairly thick...

I know the new TSB for the rear diff calls for straight Dexron LS. Many are using Amsoil Sever Gear 75-90. Is there any reason I can't use Mobil 1 LS 75-90? I hate having to give the dealer $20 a quart for the same stuff that sells for $8 a quart. document.write(' ');...

Does anyone know if Subaru ATF is the same as DexIII? The manual says to use either. But I'm thinking to use it in my other cars that call for DexIII Reason I'm doing this is because I have Subaru gift certificates from my credit card (Subaru Bucks). The web site here lists the ATF as Subaru ATF/DEX III. http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_partdetail.php ?partid=14494 Should be able to use it...

Just bought a real 95 Avalon with 153K. Owners manual says to use Dexron II. Not sure if I should use Dexron or Toyota T-IV or something like Castrol multi-import which I can get at Walmart? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Paul

Do you guys see any problems with using the Super Tech Mercon V? Manual says Nissan Matic-D or Dexron III. Car is 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R 4AT. 65,000 miles. Dealership did an ATF flush at ~30,000 as recommended by manual. The ST MV bottle says compatible with DexIII, DexVI, Matic-J.. and a bunch of others. Says on the back that this is a synthetic blend ATF. This is for a car that currently ...

60K miles, and I got 10 bottles of Dexron VI from GM Parts House. So I pulled out my Mityvac and pumped ~3.5 quarts out, and put in fresh 3.5 quarts. Then I drove ~100 miles and repeated the procedure. I am not done yet. When I feel more like it, I will pump out the fluid again, drop the ATF pan and replace the tranny's filter.
