I had a discussion with a fellow horror film fan about old horror/fright movies that included or showed the classic, old-fashioned mechanical, sitting toy monkey that clangs cymbals together. Typically the toy monkey wears a red vest and has a red hat. The older version toy monkeys were wind-ups. Later ones are battery-operated. The classic cymbal clanging toy monkey is time immortal. Even ...

This was a last.fm recommendation that proved very much worth my while. A smooth combination of Deerhunter, The Horrors, The Big Pink, and maybe a little bit of The Wrens on the side. They also have a horn section (+1 to their indietastic score) and an 8.3 review from Pitchfork for their debut album Why There Are Mountains (+20). A couple samples: YouTube - Cymbals Eat Guitars ...
Yep, American Indie, predictable no? Except these guys have more imagination in their left testicle than most other bands of a similiar ilk show throughout their entire careers. I am of course basing my judgement purely upon one album, Why There Are Mountains, released this year. Its quite a snazzy effort, eschewing conventional song structures in favour of, at times ecstatic, at other...

As Bigkit knows, I've a few cymbals I have been trying out for a few days and it's come to a difficult decision. Odd or even. There's two pairs that work really well together, but I can't justify all 4: It's either two 19" or two 18" and I'm actually in a quandry about this. All of them will fit what I'm doing, but to my ear they don't match if I mix sizes. So, throwing it open to the ...

Okay, I admit that all I know about cymbals is how they sound. Years ago I bought already old Zildjian cymbals for the studio drumkit. My brother gave the drums back to me, they were in the way. I want to sell them. I've listed the cymbals on craigslist, and I get guys telling me that if they are no A or K model cymbals, they are garbage and not worth anything. As far ...
