Hi, We were in Arnside in Cumbria this weekend collecting my Mother-in-Law for Christmas. Couldn't resist these couple of photos on the way in. It was almost dark, but the reflections on the water and the cloud formations really caught my eye. I think these were taken in roughly the same area as in an earlier thread by Ray Guselli. http://www.pbase.com/zorpie/image/120442668.jpg http://www....

Another (African) Purple Gallinule was picked up exhausted on Gran Canaria on 2nd October 2008 and released on 25th October 2008 (and still present on 26th October). Also the first, apparent "...

I'm off early tonight as I am watching a film that Vic recorded and it is really good. Just had a phone call from Linda and she says she thinks it will be ok by Thursday and that they will be coming. Snow never hangs about in Cumbria for long and she says it is more wet now and all the mian roads have been cleared. She will get a bit of shock when she gets here unless the council do something...

MAINSTREAM politicians have dismissed the selection of a British National Party candidate from Cumbria to fight a controversial Salford seat as ‘an irrelevance’. Last week, the extreme right wing BNP - which has a white-only membership policy - announced that Tina Wingfield will contest the Salford and Eccles seat, held by former Labour minister Hazel Blears, at next year’s general election. ...

An interesting situation in Cumbria. Ding Dong, s0d this for a lark A group of sixth formers ask to be withdrawn from a carol service, it being an act of collective worship and they being atheists, and four of them are made to attend. I'm rather on the side of the pupils. Being sixth formers, they get to decide such things for themselves rather than their parents making the ...
